Like Mourinho prediction,it`s not easy..don`t be cheated by statistic in Bundesliga..Dortmund is scary for Mourinho team..before the first games in this group, Mourinho had warned his squad, that the hardest opponent in that group isn`t manchester city, but Borrusia dortmund..
and his prediction is true..
Borrusia dortmund send Madrid home with zero points..Because Madrid lost 2-1 in Signal iduna park stadium
this is the first lost of Madrid in champions league..
Dortmund lead the game with goals of Robert Lewandowski, minute 34 (using the blunder of Pepe) but Ronaldo 2 minutes after makes game level...But marcel Shmelzer scores the second goals of Dortmund, minute 64 from corner kick
With this result, dortmund lead the death group with 7 points, madrid only sit in number 2 with 6 points
Starting line up
Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer; Bender (Gundogan 66'), Kehl, Reus (Perisic 91'), Goetze (Schieber 87'), Grosskreutz; Lewandowski
Madrid: Casillas; Varane, Ramos, Pepe, Essien; Di Maria, Khedira (Modric 19'), Alonso, Ozil; Benzema (Higuain 72'), Ronaldo.
i see the weird tactics when Essien becomes left full back..

It was a great night for the German Clubs with all the clubs winning their matches. As far as this match is concerned, they played a very good strategic game against Real Madrid. Lewandowski scored a fantastic first goal which underlined why he is one of the hottest striker around. Ronaldo then equalized the game for Real Madrid. But then Shmelzer scored the second goal which eventually turned out to be the winner.
Cheers!

Well done to the German club. They have shown that they are not the past two seasons title winner for nothing. Despite the less than impressive domestic form, they are still a very good team. If they can nick a result at Bernabeu, then they will be serious contender.

To play Essien at left back is not weird or tactically wrong. He is such an utility player that he could practically play in any position. That may just be the reason why Mourinho took him on loan. Anyway, it was NOT the first time that Essien played in that position for Real Madrid as he already played there in the match against Celta Vigo last weekend. He must have played well enough to impress Mourinho to retain him for the important ECL game.
How did he perform in that position against Dortmund? I have not watched the game but from the Essien I know from his Chelsea days, I think he would have played his part well. I read the match report that he even nearly headed in the equalizer for Real Madrid in the 89th minute. Marcelo will have a hard time to win back his place when he comes back.

iam not impressed his performance against Borrusia dortmund
it`s not him like usual..but i say that it is caused left full back isn`t his position...
i think mourinho must miss marcelo or fabio contrerao...it`s weird if madrid plays without both of them in left full back..

You know that Marcelo, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Contrao are all injured at the moment. So there was no way that they could be played. Essien was just asked to fill in for them, so it was not a weird decision to play him there. In fact, the management was forced by the circumstances. They did not have many choices. However, it is reported yesterday that Essien could play in the midfield holding role, his usual position, for Real Madrid’s trip to Real Mallorca in place of the injured Sami Khedira.

Mourinho is right about the bundedliga there are a lot of good teams there and teams like bayern Munich can attract brilliant players so managers should treat the German sides with a bit mote caution. I think real Madrid can still qualify so they should be ok they can still do well in the tournanent. I also agree that it wasca strange decision to put esseien at right back because that's not his position but I suppose he can tackle well so maybe he can play there
