Coffee makes me feel sleepy

While coffee helps most people to stay alert and perky, in my case, coffee makes me feel relaxed and sleepy. Coffee is a stimulant, I know. However, I don't know when the time came that coffee makes me feel sleepy instead of perking me up. I am a coffee lover and I have noticed that since drinking coffee is something that I enjoy, it has the calming effect on me. It makes me feel sleepy especially when I drink coffee after finishing a main meal. Is this weird or what? LoL! Have you ever felt this way? That after drinking coffee, you feel so calm and relaxed, that you feel like sleeping? Or is it just me? (Oh no, I'm such a weirdo)

Coffee makes me sleepy as well. I can take a box of sleeping pills and be fully awake, but If I had a pot of coffee I will be sleeping in no time. Some people respond to coffee this way because of genetics, while others are tolerant and unaffected by it, neurological disorders can also make a person feel sleepy from drinking coffee.

Its odd this happens. It does happen to other people I know. It does nothing to me either way. I don't feel hyper nor sleepy. After it wears off I feel a little tired but not too bad.

Thanks for the response. :) yes, it feels odd that coffee now has that effect on me. Before it used to perk me up. Now, coffee relaxes me and gives me a "time to sleep", blissful feeling. :)

I am very surprised to learn that. I am the opposite. The coffee really works well for me. I always feel energetic and sometimes even I will be sleepless at night if I drink a cup of instant coffee. This is why I don't often drink it because I am afraid I will stay up at night

I am like this before. I do not drink coffee at night before, because it will be after midnight when I feel sleepy. Now, whatever the time of the day is, coffee makes me feel oh-so-relaxed, that I feel like drifting off to sleep. :) Thanks for the response!!

I know someone who feel sleepy after drinking coffee too. That's why she doesn't like drinking coffee. I don't feel sleepy after I drink coffee but I don't feel alert or perky either. Coffee doesn't seem to have much effect on me. I just enjoy drinking it.

I have experienced this a couple of times, but usually by then, I have already way too many caffeine in my system plus I have been up for 48 hours with only 6 hours of sleep. GUess by that time my body has already immuned itself to any stimulant and it is telling me to go get some sleep.

Oh wow, nice that you can keep up with a number of cups a day. I limit myself to two. I really can't explain why most of the time coffee makes me feel sleepy. I guess i really am weird. thanks for the response!! :)

maybe because you have drunk too much coffee so you will feel sleepy, i know a lot of people who drink coffee every day, if some day they don't have enough time to drink coffee, they will feel uncomfortable. but if they want to keep them awake when they want to sleep, coffee is useless for them. but i never meet people who said coffee makes them feel sleepy, it is so interesting.
