if someone is always afraid of losing his money, what condition could that be called. when you advice him on investment options, he thinks the investors might be crafty and make him lose his hard earned money. when you try to assist him personally, he crawls into his shell and thinks you are not trustworthy. when it comes to money, he always thinks everyone is after his money. no one appreciates anything about him but his money and that is what they are interested in taking away from him. i think that is a condition. i wonder what the doctors will tag this condition.

Paranoia.. Would be my guess.. there may be some underline problems but there is not enough information here to give a better guess.. I see that you care about this persons future, he is just clearly worried about getting screwed over.. I wonder what caused this? If someone used money against him, or stole money; which has put a major blocker for anyone else to help him.. In order to help him you or professional help depending on the severity of the situation, the root of the problem needs to be discovered.. Then it needs to be worked out with him.. making him change or pushing him will only make things worst.. It has to be done gentlely if you want my opinion.. Good luck my friend

it has to be done gently, sjvenden. his state of mind is a reflection of the general state of mind of many persons like himself, i.e traders in the market. his opinion is not unique, else i'd think he needs professional help. it's just an opinion that has been generally accepted in the market for years - anxiety for giving money to investors and fear of people being interested in you just for the sake of money and nothing else. it can't be helped, dear.

He's probably being naturally cautious, as investing money always carries a risk. However, if he takes it to ridiculous degrees whereby this fear of losing money is his whole focus and obsession, it could be that he is in some kind of anxiety state (possibly about something else but is projecting it onto money) and may need some counselling to help him re-order his thought processes and deal with anything that could be on his mind.

you have some point there, celticsoulsister. i'd take that into consideration when discussing with him about it. one should not hold on to good money when others can make use of it and make him earn interest from it, especially when those persons are credible, like our financial institutions.

it sounds like he doesn't trust people, there could be many reasons for this, though most of these problems begin with childhood experiences, its just unfortunate that a bad childhood experience can create the sort of relating styles and defense mechanisms that mean that the same thing keeps happening, or not exactly the same, but similar things, like similar relationships.
but then on the other hand, of course, he might be right, about these investment options being dodgy, in which case it could be labelled common sense.

It depends on if the person who says that has money or not. I assume in this case it's a fact. And if it's a fact someone has money it's also a fact people did contact him, are staying with him, are after his money. Since this is how it works everywhere. No matter if you worked hard or not, if you have money you will always be surrounded by people who think they can have a part of it too. There will always be people who are just friends with you because of your money, family will fight for your money to lay hands on it. A doctor (over here not the poorest people that is for sure) would say it's normal and better to give spend it not to get dragged into fights or to hide you have some.
