I tought my cat to use the human toilet but I have never managed to teach her flushing it. My cat seems to be afraid of water or maybe the noise of flushing but I know that some cats like playing with the flusher even. So do you have any idea what to do? I tried attaching many things to the flushir, including a box with food. She managed to eat the food without touching the box ^^ If you are interested I can tell you how I thought my cat using the toilet.

I would definitely want to learn from you on how you taught your cat to use the toilet. The only reason our cats go to the toilet is to seek our attention, showing that they need or want to drink water. I wonder how long it took you to train your cat to use the toilet.

Interesting thoughts here. I think I might look more into this soon. I wonder if age also matters. I mean, would it be easier to train them while their younger or any age does not matter at all?

I sier to teach a girl kitty than a boy. I know that boy kitties tend to spray more or have accidents to express their displeasure, and or mark their territory.

it took me several weekends because only then i was able to teach her. You need to be at home to hear that your cat is going to pee or poo. so if there is someone who stays at home during working days he/she will be able to teach the cat much faster. And of course it also depends on the individual. Some animals learn faster or slower than the others.

Congratulation, your on teaching your cat to use the toilet. I would love to hear how you trained your cat! As for teaching her to flush all I can say is that cats are very clever. It is really hard to trick them into doing something that they do not want to do. My kitty Tigger loves to watch the swish of the water when you flush the toilet, yet all I have managed to teach him was not to stick his paws in the toilet. I know what you are thinking he stuck his paw willingly into the toilet bowl. Yeah, that is right. Well, I scooped him right up, and told him if you put your paws in the toilet then you have to wash your paws in the sink. You bet, I proceed to wash his paws in the bathroom sink with soap and water. His only compaint was that the water messed up his gorgeous silky fur coat. Well, lets just say that was the only time that he stuck his paws into the toilet bowl. Now when he hears, the flushing sound he just puts his paws on the toilet seat so he can watch the water go swirling around.

At the beginning I put cat litter into a plastic bowl and i put this bowl into the toilet bowl under the toilet seat. My cat used this bowl as its litter box. When she got accustomed I started to teach her to put her front paws on the seat. You have to be at home to teach your cat because you need to hear the sound when your cat is pawing the litter to know that it's going to pee/poo. (cats paw the litter before doing it as well as after it). It's easy to teach a cat to put its fron paws there but it starts to be difficult when it comes to the hind paws because it's uncomofrtable for a cat to poo in that position. So my cat started to rebell and run away when I wanted to interfere with her hind paws. The only way to teach her was when she needed to poo. It took me 2 or 3 times to succeed then. For 40 minutes I was stalking my cat when she was going to the toilet, because every time she saw me she ran away but as nobody can stand the "pressure" for too long :) so after this time she decided to do it bespite everything. On this stage you have to wait until your cat really starts to engage in pooing so it won't escape and then you put its hind paw on the toilet seat. I did it only with one paw cause after two times my cat understood by itself that it's easier to put the fourth one on the seat too. When your cat starts to do like that it will be very easy from that point. You just have to put less and less litter into the bowl in order to replace it, after some time, with a plastic plate (such one like these used for eating barbecue) where you put onto only a simbolic amount of litter. And the last stage is to stop placing the plates there at all. your cat should now associate porcelane with a litter box. So be watchful cause it can prefer using a porcelane sink or a bathtub too. Fortunately my cat never poo into them, but it happens that she urinate to the sink too. She does it only when she has already done sth into the toilet and nobody has flushed it yet (because of being absent from home for a longer time, you know how it is). therefore a really good idea would be to teach my cat to flush after herself. My father prepared a kind of lever for my flusher (cause normally its vertical which should be pulled up while we need such one to push it down) but my cat rebels against being tought to use it.

Wow, . You really put a lot of effort into training your kitty to use the toilet. I am not sure that my kitty Tigger would go for learning to use the toilet. He is pretty independent. I do not think he would appreciate me meddling with his going to the bathroom routine. I could see that would probably lead to him hiding from the me, and having more accidents. He will pee on the towels on the floor if his kitty box is not clean. At least, it is fairly easy to clean. I just throw the towels in the washer with vinegar. The only time he has had accident lately on the carpet was when I was at work, and maintenance locked him out of the bathroom that had his litter box I can understand why you really want to teach the kitty to flush the toilet. Have you tried attaching a favorite toy that your cat can tug upon to make it go flush?.

I tried but it doesn't work. I don't know if she like playing with this toy, by the way, because I can only see that she brings it to the corridor when she stays several hours alone at home. Apart from that I have never see she did anything with it. It's difficult to attract her attention to anything if it's only appended to something. she gets easily bored. so i have no idea what could i attach there so far. maybe sth what would make some noise?

that is very hard, but with ideal and proper training it can be effectively done, the thing is it needs to get adapted first

Try puttig cat nip or catnip spray on the handle that may sttract them. I don't think I could teach mine now, they hate change. Mine love the sound of the toilet and watching it go around and around.
