The Texas Book Festival is Wonderful!

Austin, Texas has a wonderful book festival every year around this time. Many well known authors are brought in to pitch their latest book. This is done in and around our State Capitol. The criteria for being invited to attend is that the author or book has to have some connection to Texas. The author has to have been born or lived in Texas or the book has to have a Texas Connection plus the book has to have been published in the present or previous year. There are books on every topic imaginable . I always learn so much. The discussions are informative, interesting and entertaining. I especially like the C-Span tent. There is some irony here. Laura Bush began this festival when George W. was still Governor. When they went to Wash D.C., she organized one there. In the meantime, the liberals and Democrats took over the Texas Book Festival and that is how it remains today but Laura Bush's name is still on the festival as Honorary Chairperson. Many of the authors coming in take issue with her husband and his presidency. This must be very hard for her. I have only been to this book festival so I have nothing to compare it to. I would like to go to one in another city. Have you ever been to a book festival? What was it like?

Laura wanted people to read but she can't choose what others read. I'm glad her name is still on the festival. Me? I have never been to a book festival but I'm glad there are book festivals.

I have gone to every single one of the book festivals since it began. I can not remember what it was like when Mrs. Bush was still in Austin but think that it was less political and more middle of the road. It was more sedate and maybe even a little classier. The liberals and Democrats have politicized the festival. You would really enjoy it. However, it is not just about politics. There are authors who write about many other subjects. I have loved every single festival.

I love book festivals. I wish that there were a lot more of them within driving distance of where we are at. Unfortunately, there aren't. My boyfriend kept comparing the one we were at to the one he'd been at in south Florida. He kept saying how small this one was. Then, later, he said how much he liked this one. I don't know what goes on in his mind sometimes...

What book festival were you at? I am always curious about other book festivals. The only one I have ever been to is The Texas Book Festival and it is always wonderful. I would really like to go to another book festival in another state so that i would have something to compare the TBF to. You can search Texas Book Festival and see what ours is all about. It is held every year around Halloween weekend. The weather is usually nice. Maybe next year, you and your boyfriend can take a vacation and come to Austin.
