Many persons frown at the idea of asking for money in order that people can donate their kidneys to help others. I think they are right. But I also believe that when I am dying, I might not disagree to asking whoever wants to have my kidneys to donate some money to help my family towards burial and funeral expenses. what say anyone to that?

Asking for money or any kind of benefits in return of any donation is NOT donation, it is business. As simple as that.
And there is nothing wrong in doing a business as long as it is legit.

Yes, I agree with that mydanods. See, the concept of legitimacy is just and only something which the society accepts - and that is always in a broader sense... they have to frame laws and rules so that people do not misuse and abuse the things and the value of these noble things remain as values.

there is nothing wrong in doing a business as long as it is legit. if the government decides that the consequences can be ignored and decides to legalize it, then it is legit and there can be nothing wrong, no matter what anybody says. I think both of us agree on that, thesids.

If it's your idea, I don't see where anyone has the right to complain. If it's your families idea, it sounds cold hearted as if all you mean to them is what they can sell you for. Also, medical cost is so much that donated body parts help keep the cost down for transplants.

I actually have second thoughts about "selling" my organs when it's time for me to go. I am worrying, what if my own family would need it? Will they be able to get a donor, a compatible one? Will the money cheapen the act of saving someone else's life, or will it be graciously appreciated by my loved ones that I am leaving behind? I guess it will depend on the situation. If my family is doing well, i think I will be fine with donating my organs to those who need it to have another chance in life. But if my family needs some financial support, then I will be thankful if they will also give something for my family.

I don't think that there is any problem in asking for money in exchange of kidney. Everybody want a better future for their family and if anything can give advantage then there is no harm.

there is no problem in it if only it doesn't start becoming a situation where people start selling their body parts to take advantage of their poverty. that is the real scare of selling for money, otherwise there would be no problem. it's not a perfect world, barood4money and where money is involved, people sometimes have the wildest imagination.

. And yes, I do respect your opinion - "that is the way society works" - so very true.
have a great day and a happy Halloween my friend
