Are you a club promoter?

If your a club promoter can you give me some tips on getting started? This would be a nice p/t gig for me. Being that music is my first love! :) I have a lot of family members who are musicians and performers so I want to stick to music. I read a pretty good article about putting together events, working the door, and splitting profits. BUT I still would like some more info. :)
