Do you require the maids to wear uniform?

Why do you require your maids to wear maid’s uniform? Do you have to be rich people or someone who is living on a village for you to require your maids to wear uniform? Are there other maids who are complaining about wearing uniform? During the parties I am seeing others who are wearing maid’s uniform and of course most of them are from rich people and some of them are the Nannies of the kids. Because someday of course I also want our maids to wear uniform but it depends on the place and if I am paying the required minimum amount then I will really require them to wear uniform.

I would want my maids to wear uniforms because 1) it helps me to distinguish them from the women whom I'm paying to be there for other reasons ( ... accountants, data-entry specialists, sound-equipment operation) and 2) the truth behind "the clothes make the man" (although probably 'woman' in this case): when a woman is dressed 'like a maid' (dark-green scrubs, I'm thinking; not the 'French maid'-outfit, which some of them might wear 'off the clock'), she has a constant reminder of it ... kind of a "Hey, I can't jump in the pool! I'm wearing a maid-uniform!"

I think a white blouse and a black skirt looks good for a young-live in housemaid-nanny girl. Apron for dirtier work. Having her run around curtsey is not the most important, but a good behaviour.

Let the rich people do what they want. Making their maids were uniforms give others the impression that they are disciplined staff and makes them an organized boss so just let them be. Besides, if I have money to burn, I might do it the same way as they are.

My sister has a helper and we don't let her wear any uniform even on special gatherings or even when sister has to attend a meeting and brings her son and the helper with her. We are not part of this rich social elite people they say and I believe there is no need to allow the helper to wear uniform. We even treat her like a part of the family and sometimes we eat together in one table.

hi, if i have a chance to have a maids at home i think i will never require them to wear uniform because it is one of the discrimination for maids at home, instead i wanted them to wear casual at home, and aside from that its a wasting of money when i require them to wear uniform because i need to buy clothes.

I don't have maids. If I had maids, I would at least have a dress code for them, I wouldn't like them to do their job in jogging apparel and dirty sneakers, for example. If I had a nicer house, I would maybe have a nice little elegant, maybe preppy uniform... crisp white and green, maybe. But only with a nicer house, in a little flat or a really small house it would look to pretentious and ridiculous to have crisp cut uniforms...

For me I think it would have to depend on the circumstances. If it was just a casual Nanny who looked after my children I wouldn't care if she wore a uniform or not but if I had a big expensive mansion and several maids on staff then I'd prefer them to wear uniforms. Especially when having dinner parties or in fancy places I think uniforms look very nice.

All those times that I had a helper, I never required them to wear a uniform coz I do not want people to be saying that I have become rich and all. I just feel that these helpers should just wear something that they are comfortable wearing and presentable enough to be worn in public.

For me I want them to wear casual attire, eat the same foods what we eat and dine with us. For me they were also like us so they should deserve what we have. The only difference is they work lower rank than us. And for me I want them to treat like my friends.

For elite, it is most likely they require their nanny or maid. But for some, it is not an issue.

If your having a party or some sort of gathering then yes I could understand why you would want your maid to wear a uniform. But if you are hiring a maid to clean your house from time to time then no I can't see any good reason why they should wear one. I wouldn't want them to dress inappropriately either though such as short shorts, skirts & low cut blouses. If they care to dress like that then they can do that after work not during.

We have a household help and we never require her to wear a uniform. They can wear any ordinary, casual, comfortable and appropriate dress they want. Ciao!
