Which Is the True Obama?

There’s nothing that can be done about a weather related disaster. Even the President can’t help until after it’s over. You follow the instructions given and pray for the best. After it’s over you rebuild with whatever help is available. But there are things that can be done in a manmade disaster especially when you knew ahead of time that help was needed. Obama has done a fine job responding to Sandy, but his response to Benghazi has, as they say, been weighed in the balance and found wanting. So which is the true Obama, the one who postponed his campaign( as McCain did in 2008 to try to thwart a national disaster) to help with relief after Sandy or the one who chose to attend a found raising event in Las Vegas rather than deal with the events unfolding in Libya?

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. i think whatever Obama has done so far is commendable. The way the elections were postponed looking at the Sandy is praiseworthy, he took a wise decision. For him attending a fund raising event is much more important than being at Libya. Fellow country men need to be taken care and addressed first and then other people should be given priority. Now lets see what he does in the coming days. What say?

These days all the major TV chanels have been reporting on the storm in U.S..In a country where the established ideology is quite different from that in U.S.,I see many Chinese pay great sympathy with the victimes. With the relaxation of the ideological control over the public by the government, this decade has seen a trend of the return to humanitarian concerns from some -ism.In fact, there have happened many manmade disasters in China, and more terrible, details about these incidents are often kept to the official only. But these years, with the development of the Internet media which serve as a relatively more transparent chanel for people to get information, manmade disasters can be discussed by ordinary people and once becoming a nationwide sensation on the Internet, some of these disasters can lead to some real changes in policy. In fact, there are more man-made disasters in China than in US,but I also see that with the development of a transparent system,China have made progress in precaution measures and some relief measures.I think a transparent political system is much more important for a country than a man.The true Obama is impossible to be known to us all,but what's more important,in my opinion,is the existence of a transparent machanism.I don't know if I have my thought expressed in correct English. In fact, political themes are kind of hard for me..Finally,hope all peoples will be free from disasters.

You did fine with your response. It would be nice if disasters did not occur, but we all know occasionally they will. When a sitting President knows about a disaster in the making and cares more about his campaign events or when he hasn't bothered to keep up with issues, I have to wonder just how much he truly cares about the total welfare of the country.

Yes,you're right,so it's more important to have a system where the empowerment of a leader can be influenced by ordinary people. If the leader does ignore the welfare of the country,it should be reviewed whether some improvement should be made somewhere within the existing election system.

Sorry,I left to mind my work just now with the post unfinished.I mean that if a selected president,or a leader, turns out to be an irresponsible one,it suggests that it should be the system that is to be reviewed to find if something is wrong because we select a wrong person. After all,he's a ELECTED leader, not an anointed one like those in a totalitarian political system.Glad sharing your ideas.

I heard before the superstorm hit, the president asked folks to please hurry to the early voting booths! But I don't know if that is true or just a rumor!

I had heard something like that myself but can't find anything to confirm it. I can't really blame him if he did make that request.

There are some things that can be done before hand in both cases. With the natural disaster, there were predictions and some preparations were made mostly by the individual states and cities. For Benghazi not only had increased security been asked for for several months before the killing of the four Americans on Sept. 11, but just because the anniversary of 9/11 was approaching, security should have been increased at all the embassies and other places. Obama completely ignored the pleas from Libya for increased security and totally ignored the approaching 9/11 anniversary as far as security any where in the world was concerned. The U. S. is just lucky that other terrorist's attacks didn't happen in many places on the 9/11 anniversary.

You're right. We are lucky there wasn't more attacks, and one has to wonder if Obama would have been just as indifferent towards them as he was about Benghazi. I also wonder how many buy into the concern he's showing for the victims of Sandy or if it's all for the sake of his reelection.

I'm pretty sure that if the election wasn't so close Obama would have still been out campaigning and wouldn't have acted so fast to the storm. Everything he does is to help himself get re-elected.

Of course there's nothing wrong with him doing what he can to get reelected, but I would hope we would pay enough attention to recognize that that is all it is.
