How do you deal with those music tapes you do not listen to any longer?

music tapes and tape-recorders - There are so many music tapes in my drawers, but I do not use them any more. I am wondering how you deal with them.

I have lots of music tapes in my drawers and they are still very good after so many years. I am no longer using them, but I don't want to throw them away. I would like to give them to someone who is still using a tape-recorder for music. Unfortunately, few people around me are using tape-recorders to listen to music. People usually listen to music on MP3 players, so it seems that tapes are out of use. My question is: How do you deal with those music tapes you don't use? Do you give them to someone? Thanks very much for your response in advance. November 1st, 2012--Sunny

I have now graduated from long playing records, tapes to cds. I do not have long playing records - I wish I had atleast one as a memory but I have a huge collection of tapes and a deck too which I still use. I mostly have Christmas music which we have been collecting over the years. I also am wondering what to do with these tapes as I have a huge collection of music on my pc too. No one wants those tapes even if I am offering them free.

Technology develops so fast that a lot of daily necessities are gradually becoming part of the memory. Now I have decided to keep my tapes in the drawer in case some day they might have the chance to become antiques and might probably be worth a lot. lol. Thanks for the response. Have a good day, allknowing.

Thanks for the information. I am keeping them in the very dry drawers. I hope they will be ok. Take care, allknowing.

These tapes over time will become redundant as they have a tendency to have fungus on them and they need to be cleaned with a cleaning tape. You might have to do that so that when the time comes they could be antique pieces, for sure!

I still have casette tapes and I am keeping them for sentimental reasons. :) I make it part of a collection of my old things. Even if a collector will offer to buy my casette tapes, I don't think I will sell them. Sentimental value is priceless. :) Very few people are still using tape recorders. I am curious as to how you dealt with your casette tapes. Have a nice day!

I just keep them in my drawers and some more in a carton box at home. Also I keep my big cassette recorder. It is still very good though I don't use it. Have a wonderful day, arystine.

I gave all of my away! At the the time I was forever moving around and they proved too bulky having to pack them away each time, so what I did the ones that I liked I found a cd replacement or downloaded tracks from the internet, then I took them all to the charity shop for them to sell and make a bit of money, so it was a worthwhile cause. I dread one day when cd's become outdated and I have to get rid of them too! It's expensive when technology moves on.

Hello wolfie. I am glad to know that you have a place to deal with those tapes in the charity shop. It is an ideal place for the tapes. As to cds, I think that they will still last a while before it becomes a part of the history. Bless you and have a good day.

Hi williamjisir, my music tapes have grown fungus. I have thrown it away. How do you keep it that well? Currently i have CDs issue and just posted it here in MyLot, many gives good suggestions. Perhaps the tapes that you have are originals since it have value to it.

Hello acrossnation. My tapes are kept in the dry drawers. I have checked to see that they are still good. Even if you can find some fungus, you may still fix it by playing it in the tape-recorder by forwarding it or just by playing it from the beginning to the end. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the response, mandylee. Now I have decided to keep them. Maybe they can become antiques some day when no more tapes will be made.

Music and any ther thing I no longer need or want I give to a church here. They have a sale every month and need all the help we can give them. They told me they do well with my things, because most if not all of the items I give them came from the usa. And people here pay good money for cloths nd other things from the usa.

I am glad to know that they have a nice place to go to. I remember one of my colleagues said to me that one man's trash is another one's treasure and when she left, she left something for the new colleagues to use.

I only have a small collection of audio tapes, and I do listen to them occasionally. My music centre has 2 audio cassette drives because it is designed to copy directly from tape to tape, so it is unlikely that I will ever be in a position of not being able to play my tapes. I do dispose of DVDs quite often because I often buy cheap ones from the market. I have never collected Dvds, except for music ones of course, so I usually pass them on to friends and work colleagues once I have watched them.

I don't keep the tapes long time ago because they are no longer useful. As you know, today not many people will have a recorder at home to play these tapes But if these tapes mean a lot for you, perhaps you can regard them as the antiques. Perhaps one day they will be quite expensive

Hello youless. I guess that the tapes will become antiques some day when there are no more tapes to be produced though they take up too much of my space for keeping them. Have a good day.

William, i don't have these music tapes in my home anymore. Since from the day, we had bought the DVD player, we had decided not to keep any music tapes at home. Because our tape-recorder had spoil. Besides that, many recording companies had slowly shifted their music into DVDs. So, it is limited choice of songs which are playing through tape-recorder. If not mistaken, we had given our boxes of music tapes to one of our relatives.

I have near about 170 music tapes. Which i don't use for many years. I just kept that safely in a box. I do not want to throw or sell that tapes. Maybe after 100 years it will be an antic stuff. And after few generations people will see what we used to use to listen music at childhood.

It is a good idea not to throw them away but keep them. They really could be antique in years when no more tapes will be made. Thank you so much for the response. Have a good day, friend.

Lol, if I found an old music tape I'd probably laugh then give it to one of my friends. He's strange he likes to live in the past. He has one of those wooden TVs with a dial, a VHS player, and he listens to tapes. I don't know why he hates technology so much. Some of it is pretty user friendly and enhances your entertainment experience.

To some degree, I also live in the past because I miss those old melodies when I was young and they can always attract me to listen to them once again. I am so glad that you can give your old tapes to someone who uses them for music. Take care, Sindelle.
