But very few people know about it. For me it's especially interesting because there have been many European epics but they have never told story about any heroine. What a surprise that one appeared just in Chinese literature although, as we know, there used to be very sexist and cruel attitude towards women once. What do you think about it? :)

I never knew that before.. when i was watching the Disney movie, i really though Disney films made them all.. How naive i was.. But now i kind of know the real story of Mulan, and it was such a bittersweet story. But the live action was quite nice.

it is quite shocking, i never new Mulan was based on that.. Although i did hear o china almost banning, or really banning the Disney movie.. although i am not sure why.. and now they even had the poem which the movie based on, quite weird, really. Maybe they did not like how it was portrayed.

I'm on eof those who didn't know that Mulan was an epic poem. All along I thought it was a book. I think a lot of countries, not only China, were rather sexists in the past. I mean, it's true that we rarely see movies about heroines of a country. Off the bat, I could only think of two others - Joan of Arc of France and Pocahontas of the Americas. But I think of late, women heroines are being recognized and their lives are made into movies, which I think is a very good thing.
