Hello Lotters, I just remembered being infuriated about a certain government official who wanted our country to be dependent too much on importation of goods and forget self sufficiency. lucky for him, i forgot his name or i would have it targetted to a vodoo practitioner. Our production of agriculture, and fisheries are compromised even the resources in the Spratleys are being taken or disputed. We have also been getting AIDE from different countries, but don't ever think of them as free, there's always a condition to that. Now a top USAIDE official has paid visit to the country to monitor infrastructure projects done together with the Philippine Government. not to mention, we also have aide from CHina in terms of gas drilling plan in the east part of the country. I think there's not only something with our Government, but also laws in our government, don't you think? we can't even amend some of the obsolete LAWS in the constitution.

Amending the laws of the land is the job of the legislators who we voted to the job for us. It is important that on the coming elections, the congressmen and the senators really reflect in their beings the heart of the people. When are we truly self sufficient? We are, actually, are already self sufficient. We have a whole natural resource that could feed our people, and we have a people who are more than willing to work for the betterment of each and every Filipino. Knight, it was worse in the past years and decades. Now we are positioning our nation as a stable one in the Far East. The problems had been identified, and our servants, the government people are working. Give them time, we will be a better nation. Where I pass everyday, the roads are all so cleaned up, with corresponding signages.

I agree with your observation. Our economy is not so perfect but I read in the news that our country is one grade lower to becoming an investment level country. This just means that our country is improving economically. Well for some legislators we can still find some flaws in their legislative functions from time to time but I think it can be corrected if the people will be vigilant enough to scrutinize the laws they pass.

Hello Eileenleyva, the problem is utilizing them to be more self sufficient. Here in Cavite we use to have a LOT of farms here until they are turned into roads and subdivisions. i feel sad seeing the farms here goes away and turned into houses. i wish some one would put up an artificial farming infrastructure here.. well, we do have eco aids here that cleans the streets every morning.

The only thing that really worries me is that transition government in our next presidential election. I think this present administration is doing well economically but the changing government will have to maintain the current practices this government is doing. I just read from the news that we will have an IMF head that will give advise on how to maintain our good economic status we are getting. It is said that it is the first time we will welcome an IMF head as a creditor nation and not as a debtor nation. I believe that the changes is not easily felt by the common people but I can see the other nations are seeing the efforts our country is doing to make it a strong one economically at least. One at a time.

Remember that we don't have the technology nor the know-how to do some things and though it seems that it's all for the benefit of these countries, we also have benefits from them since it builds 'relations'. Further, there are a lot of economic theories and decisions involved in those decisions (I don't want to dig further into those because it's really boring ahhahaha). Anyhow, we could start being self-sufficient ourselves then we could influence microeconomics before we could go for the macro of things. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Remember there are two types of business people, the first ones are the ones that work hard - they work hard, be there in their business 24/7 and do everything they can to earn. The other one doesn't do as much but would earn more - they're working smart. Now, in our country, it doesn't matter who works hard. What matters is who is smart enough to know the intricacies of the government. Who to talk to, who to bribe, who to approach and such, these people earn the biggest. It's easy to say that we're corrupt and we'd like some "Change", but if you look around, we scream "change" but we do nothing about it. If you did try something, the big fish would just eat you up. Is it hopeless? No, sooner or later the corrupt will die down. We just need to establish that law that stops politicians to transfer their positions to their family-members or relatives. That's the first step.

Hello laydee, a lot of people had been going to micro and small business enterprise, most of them are merely surviving.I have forgotten some of them, but i still think the people's mind setting and corruption is the reason why we are still out of touch. some day we can save our country and be more self sufficient.

In this globalised world,I doubt that any country can live without the support of another. Isn't that the reason why the Eu, ASEAN, NATO and every international org has been created? If not for these organizations, countries cannot maximize their economy to fulfil the need of their populace. I even assume that the uS, does need some aid from time to time. Of course, there are conditions, this is a business arrangement, not charity. I doubt that we would want charity either. However, being in a globalised might also be a threat to nationalism. Many people would argue that governments would favour foreign ownership of businesses or foreign investors using a country's national resource. It depends on how you think and how the conditions are made. But being an isolated country can also be a disadvantage. Regarding the amendment, it's scaremongering among the citizens. i agree to scrap the old law because it is not applicable anymore. But someone will tell me that other parts of the Constitution are vulnerable to the tweaking. I say, what's wrong with amending the law that impedes us? If citizens don;t want specific laws changed, they should be vigilant. The public has done that in this Cybercrime law, why it can't be done with a referendum for the Constitution?

Hello Jeanneyvonne, ASEAN was meant to help each other in some ways it would avoid conflict and disputes. but some how it has it's favorables and disfavorables, like countries siding with other countries just to for the sake of having them favored when it comes to the dispute. there's nothing wrong with globalization but we need to have active entrepreneurs for more growth in our country

No nation for me is self sufficient, each and everyone depends on each other, think it is more of fairness from what you give and what you get in return, think this is the real issue

Hello Louievill, Indeed, thats the reality. and look at North Korea who tried to be self sufficient ends up depending on food and financial aide while they spread hate against their western donors. am sure there has to be something that our country can do.

I certainly agree that we are still far to be self sufficient. We can't even defend our territories and have to rely on big brother US for our territorial disputes with China. And if China try to invade us, I wonder how many days we can stand to defend our country. We have a vast shoreline and sea territories and our coast guards is no match to foreign fishing vessels poaching on our vast oceans. Now because of overfishing, we are now importing fishes to our neighboring nations to beef up our supply. Can you believe that?! Financial Institution has keep upgrading our investment grade since the time of the former president but still foreign investors are evading us, what we got are short term moneys that foreign investors put on our stocks and bonds which they can easily pull out anytime. This inflow of dollar somehow put negative effect on our money exchange rate. What we needs are factories and jobs for our people but instead of putting it here foreign investors go elsewhere. Political reform is only lip serving coming from our politicians. Where are those supporting former GMA now? They jump fences and now with the camp of this administrations. The anti dynasty bill and the Freedom of Information bill are now dusting in Congress because everybody including the President does not want this bill to pass. Our nation is still in the hands of very few rich and influential family so what can the people expect from them, when in fact all they want is self sufficiency for their families and friends. Ciao!

Hello Romzee, I don't think we can last a month defending the country we are way to vulnerable.we shouldn't import fishes because we have a lot of resources, i think they are the ones stealing our resources and selling it back to us cheap. they are very much balimbing on choosing who is strong in the party, none of them have real political stand on issues
