I know this tradition have been part of American culture, but not in the Phillippines, I can say. Well, I really don't know what the history of this is all about. If you know, please share it here. Anyways, this might be a little late but here it goes... This halloween season, we are somehow shocked why some children here in our place have been doing house to house and asking "trick or treat". My sister asked one group who passed us if they know what they are saying. Obviously, they don't. They just want treats.... My sister said then, why not ask, treat or treat then? We don't have treats for you, so what will you do then? They just nodded as if saying "just give us candies or treats" I can't imagine how children would be, well, I can't blame them cause they are always out of food. That's why they take every chance as they can, just for alms or whatever people might get for them...

Yes, this tradition is not familiar in my country, either. Still, some international chained hotels celebrated it. I remember this when I worked in a hotel before, we sold an evening with ghouls and scary creatures for people who wants to celebrate Halloween. People came with costumes but a lot more just came for the liquors. I forgot when is the date of the Halloween now...

Hi Vi! Well I guess the kids are just copying what they are seeing on tv's... and of course they want some goodies! haha I didn't see anyone here in our place doing such except before in our place, some of my cousins do this something that they call " Pangangaluluwa" where they do house to house visits in their neighbors and sing some songs that I do not know..just like Caroling during Christmas season... hehe

I haven't seen any kids trick or treating yet in our place. But I heard that it's a common practice in some private subdivisions. Some malls have their own trick or treat events. I used to attend in a couple of them when I was young. We'd go around participating shops in Rockwell or Alabang Town Center and ask for candy. We'd go home with several bags filled with treats. I hope that's how it's being practiced and not as an excuse to beg for money.
