i fail to see how rizal could have helped the filipinos during that time. i would rather bonifacio became the national hero.
rizals literature could have been like those that we have read in school. writers like orwell, machiavelli, etc have the same theme and effect to its readers.
i think there was just a conspiracy regarding rizal that's why his works are sensationalized and deeply promoted.
but don't get me wrong, i like rizal as well. but not as much as most.

Even I do admire Bonifacio braveness too and love of country.Especially how he raised and grew up.He is one of the reason why Philippines had set free from Spaniards colony. But through the writings of Rizal that's why there is Bonifacio who become of our hero.I remember before Rizal is one of the choice to be a national hero. but they select Rizal because He did not used sword or kill people . but of course we both owe our freedom to them.

Hello fearlessgara, his writings were really criticizing the events that happened about how the filipinos were abused and not treated as equals. you know he never really wanted independence but just to be treated equally under the spanish rule. they failed to understand that and that caused a revolution.he will always be remembered as a National hero for fighting for our equal rights with the foreigners and not to be treated below.

YES.and through that. He awakens our blood. and let the filipino know that they are being abused by the spaniards on their time.Although the character is not a human but the filipinos itself. I too was touched with this.and my favorite character there is Crisostomo Ibarra,Pilosop Tasyo and Elias.
