Working with family!

My friend has a family business and we had coffee earlier today to talk about our news. She said that working with family is really difficult and it can create big fights because they see each other at work andd at home and if they have an argument at work, it continues when they return home. She needs some peace when she is at home and she can't seperate her family life from the professional environment. Did you have any experience with a family business and do you think it is possible to balance personal life and work when the job involves the people in the family?

I think that it is really impossible to separate work-related problems when all of you would be seeing each other after office hours. But on the brighter side, the family are the best to be with when crisis arise in their business.

That's a great advantage of having a family business! It is managed by the family and they are all united when a crisis comes. Also, any investments or money that come from the business can be managed in a better way because when problems arise, everyone will make efforts individually to reach the common goal and overcome the difficulties!

Still now I did not have a business with my family and do not have any problems with them but my dad has a business and my family members are tied to it. There may be some problems in business which can cause to talks an it had happened in my dad's life but my dad had managed in a smooth way. He believe that business talks are external and it do not have any tie up with family matters. He just used to solve them and do not take it as family matters.

Your dad has managed to keep the belences. I also believe that what happens at work shouldn't be taken personally. My friend had a fight once with her sister who sits at the register because she left once and forgot to lock the door so anyone could have walked in and steal from the store. They had a huge fight for more than a week and they didn't speak at home or at the workplace. She told me that when the work problems come back to the house, then the stress, the anger and the bad mood comes back as well.

I once worked with my husband on a horse ranch. its hard to live, and work also with a spouce or family member. We all need our space. It didnt work to well for me.
