I have read that the loneliest people on earth are the sailors? Do you agree? What is your opinion about this?

It was said that the sea is the Englishman's desert; men went to sea to commune, just as men went to the dessert to all the best, urban

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well in a way i also think that the sailors are the most loneliest people in the world. This is because they keep on traveling the whole year to different countries without any proper mission and that too with so much of risks involved with their lives. No body on earth would like to move around the world throughout the year when they have a family. May be since they do not have their own family and hence every time they move out on an expedition without any regrets. What say?

It is really difficult to be away from family and friends. Their jobs are not that easy. Thanks for your response.

I think it depends on the person. Sailors can be as lonely as an old person whose family is too busy to check in on them, or a service member that is far away from home, not necessarily having to be a sailor.

Before yes, but now since there is already WorldWideWeb and even in the midsea there is a internet connection signal now. So it no longer apply to sailor.I myself have encountered sailor whom can email even during their sailing.

Being a sailor is a choice a person makes, knowing the consequences of that choice. What I feel is the loneliest people are the elderly left in a room by themselves seeing a nurse now and then. Family has forgotten they exist, friends has passed ahead or forgot not because they want to, but because the memory is gone due to getting old. Sailors visit different countries, has others on the ship with them that they can joke around with, have meals with, be around. In an old folks home, these people hardly see anyone..

I don't think so. They choose to become a sailor because they love the sea and that gives them happiness and contentment- but of course, maybe there's an exemption to the rule. Some people are forced to become a sailor for the sake of having a good earning job.

Loneliness is a feeling which is inside you. Being a sailor is a choice, if sailing makes you feel that lonely you will stay on shore. Loneliness will eat you and make you depressed and you are not able to do anything anymore. Sailors are not the kind of people who are lonely, way too busy with working. I think many elderly people are way more lonely and even kids (the bullied ones and those who are different/more creative and not understood) are more lonely as the general sailor is. So no I don't agree with you. The feeling of loneliness is inside you, no matter if you are surrounded by family, friends etc.
