Those government agencies, they should do the re - training

I have to changed my trip plan, since none of those government agencies can actually answer my question. The context was about my friend who has only green card (permanent resident card) and a state issued driver's license. We plan on a trip to Puerto Rico, and I just inquire what kind of documents should he bring with him. He is from Vietnam, so I called the Vietnamese embassy in Washington, the man on phone answer it with an unfriendly tone, he said that he wasn't sure, I should called the Puerto Rican embassy. So, I called the Puerto Rico embassy, the lady with a Spanish accent told me that she wasn't sure either, also with an unfriendly tone, reluctant to answer my call or something. She gave me another number to inquire about the traveling documents. That number turn out to be out of service already. So, I attempted to called the travelocity.com 1- 800 number, there was an Indian man answer the phone, and everything I said he just "um, um, yes". Then I called the Orbitz.com 1-800 number, there was a guy who actually speak real English, but he told me that he only handle domestic flight, he was confused about whether Puerto Rico belong to international or domestic. With all that, I was frustrated, and I also called the U.S. immigration to find out, but they kept me on hold for over 20 minutes without anyone answer my phone. At last, I just have to change my plan to Somewhere else. Had you ever encounter this circumstance, those government agencies none of them can actually help you anything, and they are collecting big amount of tax money. Shame on them.

Same thing here in Mexico. All government offices are staffed with many so called old timers. Many clash with the new kids on the blocks. They need to send the old times back for some current training here as well.

Hey, do you think it is safe to travel across the Mexico Border to Tijuana now?

Just last month, I called this certain government agency and I was put on hold for 18 minutes! I have no choice but to hang on because it took me numerous tries to dial their number since its perpetually busy. When I finally talked to someone, I have to repeat whatever I said to the first person who picked up my call all over again. It is so frustrating, and to think that being in public service they should know a thing or two about good service provision.

that's the most common situation when calling a customer service hotline. after waiting on the line for several minutes, all they have to say is "sorry for the inconvenience". and that's that.

Yeah! Those types of people would make me want to run for office and fire everyone! This is the main reason why I always am for non-regularization of the government agency employees. You see, they slack too much because they feel that they're "rooted" in their jobs because they've been then for a long time. They feel that they're "kings and Queens" because they got that job and you cannot do anything about it! I'd love for those incompetent fools to just leave and know that they should perform in order to stay employed! There are far more people who are well-deserving with those seats of government. I had the same incident with a government agency in my country, though it wasn't about travel, it was about Social Security. I have been a member since I first was employed and was a constant contributor without fail. But once I asked if I were able to have a loan, we found out that I can't because my middle name was spelled incorrectly (I don't know who misspelled it since it was too long ago). Anyhow, I asked what could be done and they gave me the usual requirements. I complied and they told me to wait. I had been doing that follow-up only to be told that I need to submit another set of requirements because they couldn't find my papers. I did that for the last 8years! It wasn't only until I found a friend working in the system and told him my problem and all the follow-ups I was doing. He told me to wait coz he'll check if he could do it with his computer (he's employed there). After a few seconds, he was able to change my middle name. I wasn't sure if I should be happy or furious. All the 8years following up that thing could be done in seconds. Why should those people stay in jobs that they can't even do??? Whew!

really irritating experience you got. from where i am, i often notice this behaviour as well. most of them are competent enough. but there are still some who it seems are just there for the paycheck. it's like they don't even care about the clients when it is their job to be assisting them. sad to say, some of these government employees are just friends of those government officials. these employees helped these officials in some way during the election period. and as a sign of gratitude, the latter promised to give jobs to the former. the result? a less than competent untrained government employee. what's worse is that even the supervisor doesn't do anything about it. anyway, i hope you'd fix our problem so you'd go on that trip.

I agree with you, personnel in those agencies you approached should undergo a training. I guess they have no training yet why should they go re-training. Honestly, I had not experienced what you told us here. Even in my own country, I haven't gone to this kind of agency as I only travel within our country. Haven't gone out of the country yet. I just hope that if ever I can encounter this kind of problem, by that time, these agencies are already reformed.

Hello Kingparker OH! I'm sorry to hear about this. I've never experienced this kind of situation. That was awful, they should act and do their best to answer your inquiries or it would be better to assist you in your concern. I had an experience processing documents in a government I encountered some problems but it's nothing serious compare with your situation. I hope you will still enjoy your trip despite of all the things happened. Have a great day ^)^
