Class action lawsuits

I was quite surprised on Monday when I was checking my email to see that I had a deposit of just under four dollars into my paypal account. This deposit was not something that I was expecting, upon doing a little bit of research, this deposit was a result of my filing as a claimant in a class action lawsuit over a year ago. I understand that my deposit wasn't all that much, but it was still something that was nice to receive. Have you ever been a claimant in a class action lawsuit? If you ever have been a claimant in a class action lawsuit, have you ever forgotten that you'd filled out the paperwork on one of these lawsuits and then when you do receive your portion of the settlement are you completely surprised by it? The class action lawsuit that I received my portion of the settlement for was a lawsuit that was filed against classmates.com, but I honestly cannot remember why the lawsuit was filed against them.

No, but periodically I get letters and notifications bringing them to my attention. I have never signed up for one. I wonder if most of them have such low payouts since its such a large number of people. I am all for free money but I don't want to jump over bridges for $3.95. Either way though that was $3.95 you didn't have yesterday. Don't spend it all in one place lol. :)

Well, I will be spending lace and that will be in about a week and a half when I go to Wal-Mart and buy the new bikes that my children are going to be getting for Christmas. You see, I have enough coming in paypal to pay for one of them and I also have a Wal-Mart gift card that will pay for the other. Before this settlement, I would have been paying for the tax out of pocket, but with this settlement, that is not something that I'm going to have to do now.

I'm sure I have recieved a lil something at some point. My hubby just got a notice in the mail for him to sign up for another one for a credit card he used. IDK if he's going to participate or not as it's in his name only so I have not much say in it other than if we can afford the debt *LOL*

Something like that, I don't know if I would sign on as a claimant. However, with this classmates.com thing, I did sign on because I knew that I did have a paid subscription in the past so I did feel like I was a valid claimant.

I got my 3.93 today also. I think it had something to do with the way they were getting people to sign up or something. I am also waiting for a settlement from Nutella, for claiming to be healthy? As a matter of fact I got another letter in the mail the other day from a credit card company about a class action against a payment protection service..

That I think makes a lot of sense. I remember that I did end up subscribing with them because it said someone had signed my guest book and I wasn't able to see who it was unless I had a paid account. Now with the Nutella thing, I've never heard anything about that one, but it does sound like an interesting class action suit.

Years ago I did make a claim but I can't remember what exactly that was. I think I filled out the paperwork just for the heck of it and mostly forgot about it. I believe it was for the phone company - that they had charged some odd fee to everyone over a specific period of time. I just happened to have the old statements and was able to make a claim. I think I received a small check in the mail (this was long ago) - something like $12 or so if I am recalling correctly. It seems these claims do not amount to a lot as it applies to a lot of people, but hey, it is owed back to the people! Since then, I have mostly ignored these class action suits (we get them though not often) - maybe because I didn't feel like digging up some old statement or didn't think I had the statements (proof) anymore . . . or doing that bit of extra paperwork.

Well, I realize that the reward is very little, but if the paperwork that they want isn't very much and it won't take me all that long to fill out the information, then I'm willing to do it now and in the future.

I heard about it, but Randy thought it was a scam so we did not file. I guess the next time I see a class action lawsuit I will file because who knows if I will get any money out of it. I know the money is not a lot, but every little bit helps especially in this day and age.

Yes, I will admit that this little bit of money is coming in handy for me because it is going to help cover the taxes on the last couple of Christmas gifts that I need to get for my kiddos (I ordered the rest of their toys and such from Amazon). What is the funniest though is that I had actually forgotten about this by the time I received payment for it.

I read in the wikipedia that Classmates.com was sued for sending fraudulent emails to its users. You can read it on the Wikipedia. Did they send you a fraudulent Email ? I still haven't participated in a class action lawsuit. I wish I did though. Some companies have rules that annoys me so much. My father had to fight for months against Bezeq(an Israeli telephone company ) to stop charging him and to disconnect him. They make everything to make the clients give up and stay with Bezeq.

They may have, but then again they may not have. You see, the time frame was such a long time ago that I honestly cannot remember. There has been a lot that I've been through in my life since then.
