Do I Really Have To Say It?

There is a way to say things. It can be either politically correct or a blatant statement. Now not everyone needs to know my opinions, but for some of those I choose to share them with, I do so my way. I am going to admit that the reason for political correctness is to be less offensive. But, there are some people that come across rather inappropriately, and they have the nerve to be high profile. You know what I mean? I guess they have to think about having a strategy for every statement. HOW CONTRIVED! Well, I do believe some high profile people can be considered INSENSITIVE! There!

adforme: I believe we should all express ourselves as respectfully as possible to all people, but I also think that the idea of political correctness goes too far sometimes. I for one get sick and tired of these politicians who speak their minds and when someone objects, the politician is made to feel like he or she needs to make public apologies. The fact is that every opinion or statement made by any person is going to be thought of as offensive to someone. I think we should all be able to state our opinions without fear of facing public disgrace for offending someone else. This is why people are loosing their backbone. For example, look at the statements made by Dan Cathy. The man said that the Chick Fil A chain was founded on biblical princples of marriage and that they were grateful to be married to their first wives. Gay people had a fit and accused of being discriminatory. There was no gay-bashing in these statements. Notice that divorced people did not make accussaions and try to cause difficulties for the business. I was very glad to see that Mr. did not retract his statements and very proud that the Christian people stuck by him. It is ridiculous that people are not free in this country to voice their opinions. I think the only way to solve this problem of political correctness is for every person to refuse to back down. We have a right to say what we think and feel and should not be made to feel the need to apologize when someone else feels upset by what we have said. True there are people who are high profile and they make a living out of being contraversial, but most people do not set out to be hateful, disrespectful, or cruel to others when they share their opinions. Instead of condemning those opinions that we disagree with, maybe we need to concentrate on having reasonable discussions and debates to gain understanding into our differences. I get so tired of being labeled as a an idiot, puppet, and other derrogatory things because I am a Christian and hold beliefs that society in general doesn't seem to share to the extent that it once did. I think people need to have the courage to share, live, and stick by their convictions regardless of what other people think.

adforme: Thank you. I was afraid of bein misunderstood. It happens a lot. It is never alright to clump all people of a paricular race or belief system together, especially in a negative sense. Wise people do take the time to think before they speak. I think we can agree that the young lady in question has not yet reached a level of maturity to act respectfully or responsibly and thus, is perhaps best ignored. I think we need to draw a line when it comes to being able to fire people from their jobs for expressing an opinion and showing ignorance of this sort. To me, being able to fire someone for expressing an opinion (even one as horrible as the young girl's) flies in the face of freedom. How will we be able to continue to feel free to debate and discuss things if we have to fear losing our jobs? The best we can do for people like this girl is to continue communications and find out where she got such hateful ideas so that we can work on eliminating future discrimination and hatred of this magnitude.

I agree. This is America. If she is a good employee, that should be the main thing relative to her employment.
