Would you put your trust on a god who is able to lie?

False Filipino preachers who are ministers of the Iglesia ni Kristo ni Manalo (Church of Christ of Manalo) have at one point in their television show "Ang Tamang Daan" (The Right Way) aired over Net25, declared that God, being all-powerful, have the capacity to lie if He wants to. This declaration is obviously contradicting God's characteristics of the Bible that says: "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"-- Titus 1:2 "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:" -- Hebrew 6:18 Issues: 1. Would it make God a lesser being if He is unable to lie just because He should supposed to be Omnipotent? 2. Would you still trust and rely upon a god being presented to us by the church of Manalo who has the ability to lie as a manifestation of being omnipotent? 3. Can you put your confidence and reliance upon the god of iglesia ni kristo (church of a mortal christ) whose words and promises you cannot count on?

If a god is omnipotent than it can lie. Just because it can does not mean that it does. de omnibus dubitandum

"If God is omnipotent, then it can lie."? Then, would you be willing to put trust in a god who can lie to you just because it is an essence of his omnipotence? "Just because it can does not mean that it does."? How sure are you that "it does not really mean that it does"?

It is not for me to put restrictions on a god. I havent found one yet that I would put my trust in but whether a god or gods can lie is the least of my concerns. de omnibus dubitandum

They are correct and there is no contradiction Having the capacity to lie does not mean God will. Since God is omnipotent he has all potencies and to have potency is to have a capacity and therefore has the capacity to lie. To say he does not is to deny his omnipotents which sounds blasphemous all the best, urban

Your premise may sound valid IF there is no Biblical verse that says that God cannot lie. However, the Bible is explicit on saying that the God of the Bible is a god who CANNOT lie. It is not one of his omnipotent characteristics of being able to lie. However, will you accept and trust a god whom you know will someday revert promises because he is able to lie?

I don't have any against people who have different religions compared to mine. The only thing I know, we have only one God. Good day!

You might want to reconsider that concept of having only one God. The catholics and mormons believe in a god who has a flesh and man-made image. The born again group believe that god is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in one. The church of christ of manalo believe in a god which has a mortal son. The Church of God International believes that God the Father is greater than the Son. So, which among this belief is correct? Can there be a one god with conflicting characteristics?

1. A "God" that lies is not a God in a sense of being a true God! Such "God" who lies makes him look bad and weak instead powerful and truthful! A all-mighty and powerful God is a truthful God, if He would lie, that would make Him a far lesser being than a lesser God! Lying is a weakness, not something that belongs to a capacity, because God has unlimited capacity to do all kinds of things, but lying certainly isn't part of it. That's how i see it. 2. No! Certainly not, the lie here is alone the presentation of "God" being a omnipotent being because, according to their view, God has the ability to lie! Lying is not a ability of power, might and perfection, it's a weakness. That's the problem. 3. Nah! I rather first put my trust and confidence to God's truthful Word, the Bible. If a church speaks based on the Bible's truths then I have no problem to count on them. :)
