I'm going to force myself to write from outlines.

I did not have any formal training on writing during college. Although I have a lot of books about writing, I feel that my writing skills are still below par compared to trained professionals. Now that I am deploying several online publications, I really feel the need to be more systematic about my writing. I cannot just write when I feel like it. I must have a system. And I think writing from outlines will make me write with purpose and become more productive. Anybody here with formal training in writing?

Your english is good already, maybe you can upgrade yourself taking english lesson, for me I practice my writing in mylot, here I can get a lot of idea and friends comments before I post my comment to a discussion. I also read newspaper, it helps me with the words I don't recognise before. I think you can do it as I think you are confident to land a job in Fiverr.

My English is not the problem. My thoughts do not flow fast enough in one pass. I have to write and rewrite most of what I publish or blog several times. I have been observing interviews on TV and I'm quite amazed that some people are so eloquent when they speak. If I could write like that, I would be a happy person.

That is normal, even good writers sometimes have no idea on their mind to write, take a rest and then you refresh and try to write again. As you said the commentators on TV, I also agreed that they speak a lot when their mind flows with idea, that is a talent and skill, to acquire that you have to watch a lot of TV news. I hope you can do it, friend. Maybe time will come when you can.

The best way to learn how to write is through reading. I don't mean reading books about how to write but reading books written by successful writers. Have a variety of reading materials so you will pick up different styles of writing. Who is your favorite author? Buy his or her books and read, read, read.

Actually, I do read a lot. I have a small library of about 500 books on different subjects. And I have thousands of ebooks as well. Although I have probably read many good books by good authors like Peter Drucker, I find it hard to even give a summary of what I've read. I think I do better if I memorize stuff in some kind of prepared speech.

I honestly believe that good writing is something that has te be 'in' you. I never learned how to write stories. Yet I started writing blogs on a social network, just to keep my relatives and friends that I left behind informed. More and more I enjoyed it and I tried to make the blogs about my new experiences also a bit humoristic. Within a few months people started telling me I should have my blogs published because they really liked to read them. Of course there are some basic rules like never use one word again short after you already used it. Make sure the words sound good after each other. And before you're going to place it on the net: let some people have look at it. You just can't edit your own work. Well, hope this is some help already. Good luck!

i've read the comments before this. yes, you do need an outline. every beginner writer needs and uses one. it helps to organize your work and sometimes, you get an eureka moment when you do use an outline. the best advice any writer can give you is to write and write often. do show your works to others, especially in blogs.
