Obamacare Questions I Can't Find Answers To

These might be some dumb inquiries but please bear with me. I have some reasons for asking. So about Obamacare, I'm still confused. If someone makes less than $9,500. per year at their job but still has some money saved up in their bank then do they also count those assets in order to determine if they have to pay for their healthcare or not? And what if they don't currently work, but still have something like $9,600. to $100,000. in their bank saved up for their retirement for some strange reason (assets)? Would they still have to buy healthcare? How much would they have to pay if anything then for their healthcare? I have some friends in situations like this who are confused about it just like I am. Will the govt count any assets at all when they determine if you pay or not and how much?

NailTech: As my mother used to say, there are no dumb questions. I doubt that very many people understand Obamacare and what it will end up meaning for the people. I do not know but I would assume if they can find a way to make you pay for health care it will be based on income. For many things, especially in government assistance programs, your assets include savings. I think we will all have to just wait and see what it is all about. I have not found any information to clarify Obama's plan either.

Yes I do know assets include savings but do they want to include those assets in order to get you to pay for the insurance or not. I wouldn't want to use all my savings up to pay for it if I don't have a job. Thanks for the link, bailipromo! Any other comments are still welcome! Maybe someone can clarify things better than someone here has but so far it looks like the answers were pretty well written.

Obamacare doesn't happen for a long time and will change many times between now and then. You can write to your politicians and ask questions, but I wouldn't be really specific as to your case, just a little more general like if someone has money saved up. I'd write to a republican and a democrat. Since they each are interpreting it deferently. The Democrats seem to be reporting all the positive and the Republicans all the negative. Our newspaper writes the names and addresses of all our representatives so we can write to them.

I never thought of writing to a politican to ask those questions but perhaps you are right, plus them changing the rules along the way from now til then is also a big possibility.
