Today in Mexico city, mexico today starts a new program.
Its called the $5 dollar dr.
You can go to many dr. here for a $5 consult.
Of course they wont give you much for just $5. But it was like 25.00-50.00 before.
And of course many drs. here say it will lead them to get more regular patients.
I think its a great idea.
What do you think of it?

Maria, you are lucky that your government had comes up with a cheaper consultation fees for the public. As for me here, we don't have this type of cheaper consultation fees. It is still like usual, we will need to pay from $30 onwards for a normal consultation.

Thanks for giving me the "Best Response", Maria. How i wish my government will implement more good move to cut-down the medical fees which is burdening for those low income families. Your government had comes up with a good plan by reducing the medical fees, which able to helps quite a lot of those low income families to survive through current financial situation.

$5 per visit to the doctor clinic sound like a bargain, but wait a minute, you may not have hour of personal attention from the doctor and shouldn't expect thorough examination, you probably only get 5-10 minutes of your doctor time for consultation. It doesn't include written prescription and diagnosis of your illness. What you pay for is what you will get in return concerning your health issues.

I doubt it will give them more patients. Nobody is visiting a doctor because he/she is bored or making up an illness for fun. Perhaps the consult is just 5$ but the recipe, more examinations, tests probably are not. I think this is a way to fool people. Maybe you get some people that far to visit a doctor. Those who never had the money before. But what if they do not have the money for the rest (more tests etc). How will those people feel to, kind of know, what they have and also know they do not have the money to pay for their health? BTW Over here you get nothing for the money you pay for a consult either (although it does cost you way more, doctors complain about how hard they have to work and you should not come if you just have the flu plus if you are sick you are lucky if you get an appointment within 3 days! so most people search on the internet or help themselves since many medication you can buy yourself too now which doctors want too because they say you waste their time).

Yes it might be a deal, to trick people. Only time will tell. But many dont even go to dr. because they dont have or want to pay 25-50.00 just to go into the dr. office door.

I think it's a great start! It might encourage people who are afraid of doctors and the medical bill to go to the doctor--maybe for the first time! Even if there might be costs later on, they might be able to detect something that can be treated.

I was thinking the same. I know many kids who dont go to dr. here, as parents cant afford to take them.

yes, is it for a lifetime program? or just a one big shot thing. But it is great for those who ignore pains and sickness because of the expensive doctor's fee. Take this opportunity and have everything checked. Hmmm how about the laboratory tests? does it cover the 5$?

Do you mean this goes to private clinic doctors? Or the government clinic/hospital? In my country, we pay less than $1 for government clinic, we need to pay more if we do operation, for medicine, it's free. But if we go to private clinic, we have to pay more, like $20 per consultation with medicine. But really depends on the service. If we go to specialist, it will be more expensive.

it does not matter if obtain regular patients or not from this 5 dollar promotion. what matters is that people who cannot afford get to a doctors office and get checked. think most visits anyways is worth about 5 dollars, because of the time the doctors spend with you. from this stand point they will receive excellent care if they have not or was not planning to see a doctor before this promotion. it is a very good concept to bring people into an office to get checked and to save lives and create a healthier being.

true-- as many dont go to dr. here, as they can afford to even get the check up. Maybe that changes here today. I hope so.

Really i am totally with you. Its a great idea and noble thought of doctors to offer consultancy for only $5. Definitely it is very very useful to poor people who can not afford to go to the doctors otherwise. These doctors will sure get blessing from the heart by these patients and will result into the increase of their business by getting more and more regular patients. Let every doctor in the world should adopt this activity.
