Pretty Christmas cards - I don't send them

Yesterday I got a Christmas Card from a friend who lives far away from me. Of course it's beautiful and I appreciate her sending it to me. I haven't sent out Christmas Cards in years. Usually I send them over the internet to friends and family who have pc's but not everyone has one. Between the cost of the cards and the high postage it's so much smarter to send them online. I don't usually get a lot of cards because my family and friends also send me one online. What are your thoughts on sending Christmas Cards? Do you send them or email them?

Your friend's just making sure that you'll receive the card before Christmas. Snail mail can sometimes take weeks especially if the postal services from where she's from isn't that efficient. But you're right, it is a bit early. I never send any card online. I also feel it's impersonal. Besides, spending for postage is the least I can do considering I'm not even giving them gifts.

Yes, snail mail around here is very slow and she lives far away from me so I'm happy she sent it early.

Ha! Better believe it! Christmas is definitely just around the corner. You should go to my country of birth, the Philippines. Once the Ber-months (September, October, November then December) set in, you'll be hearing Christmas songs from all over like radios and malls. Not all the time though specially during the 1st few months. It's like a reminder to make ample savings now for gifts for those who were naughty but nice... Going back to Christmas cards, I don't mind getting them early. It goes to show that the sender knows how late cards can be sent once Christmas time sets in. Sending them online is good but at times, I prefer calling my loved ones or sending them a gift if budget allows me too. Merry Christmas to you, in advance!

I think this year we are all going to be doing a lot of Skyping instead of even ecards. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you....far in advance :)

Maybe it's my age but I am sure that Christmas comes earlier and earlier each year, but the blame I think goes on commercialism gone too far, I even heard a shop play Christmas carols at the beginning of November, the poor staff! Mind you I do spread my Christmas shopping out, I buy presents as I see them through the year and put them away in my drawer under the bed, it saves a big bill around Christmas time. I probably won't send my cards out till early December, fortunately I haven't many to send. Postage is sooo dear now, I usually give the cards in person when we visit relatives to swap presents.

It sounds like your friend is being smart about getting her Christmas cards in the mail early enough to beat the holiday rush. We've been waiting on some mail here, and I am thinking that the mail system is alread beginning to slow down a bit. I'm hoping that what we're waiting for will be in by Monday.

I don't really send out Christmas cards anymore, but when I do, I usually send them as a postcard. I think e-mail cards are really impersonal and cheap, and real postcards give the true feeling of being cared about. I usually send them in the middle of December. I don't know why, but I would feel uneasy about getting a Christmas card in November. We shouldn't rush Christmas.

I"m with you....I was surprised to get a card already. Personally, I don't think ecards are impersonal because you can usually add comments or even write the whole card. Believe me, I'm in no rush for Christmas to come.

Wow, a Christmas card already? That's a bit toooo early for me but everyone does their own thing. I'd rather get them after Thanksgiving...this makes me feel like Christmas is really on it's way then. I do send out Christmas cards. I guess it's just the way I like to do it. I could send some of them an ecard, but my preference is the mail and a personal little written note. I don't have a huge family, nor do I have a huge list of friends, so it doesn't bother me that much to do this. I think it's still just one of my traditions,..like getting a real Christmas tree, and have done this for years.

It's rare when I send cards, no matter if it's from a holiday or christmas/new years cards. I find it a waste of money since most people throw it away. Sometimes I do send it by email but even that I don't do that much. Those who are close to me are there. My kids did give some years a card to each classmate but I do not know if they will do that this year again. This because they are on a new school with many different foreigners and this is not a habit. Before they did because it was a habit at the former school. An expensive one I can tell you. Writing about 60 cards is no fun.
