I got the job!

It is only now through the end of the year, but I got the job. I go in on Sunday for a few hours and then get my schedule for the next week. It is less money than I am used to making, but it is better than nothing. I have a job starting the week after this one is over, but it is also only temporary. So basically I have between now and April 15th to figure out a full time permanent job. To make this a discussion..Have you started a new job recently? Would you take a job making less than you are used to making just to have a job in you were unemployed?

That is terrific. I'm glad to hear it. I feel sorry for all the people who have been working for Hostess. I think I heard 18,000 people will now be out of a job.

I keep hoping someone will buy them out. They are so iconic with so many of their products.

I know it is horrible. Everyone seems to be worried about not getting their Twinkies anymore, but what about all those people who don't have jobs? There is a bakery outlet up the road from my house. I was in there tonight. The ladies that work there have worked there as long as I can remember. So much for job security.

Congrats (again) lilybug! I haven't started mine yet. I start mine this Monday. To answer your question, yes, I would take a job making less than I'm used to...if I had to. One of the jobs I turned down paid less than what I was making before. However, the hours conflicted with my previous job, so I chose to keep my previous job until my new job came along. Happy mylotting!

Congrats! I wish I could find something! I got my schedule for next month.. There are days I have to open at 8:30, which I can't do cause my kids get on the bus at 8:20 (hubby works at 8), and work is 15 minutes away on a good day! Then I've got some Thursdays till 5.. and that's my daughter's dance night, she needs to be picked up sometime around 3:30.. they understand if I can't get there till 4 or 4:30.. but 5?? Then I got Fridays till 6.. and every other Saturday! The change is because I start in a new bank (same company) on December 1st. Hubby and I are both seriously thinking I should just give my notice now even though I don't have another job lined up yet. Really not a good time of year for that.. but it's getting to a point where it's either put in my notice, or end up not showing up anymore.. giving notice is better!

Thanks! That is just crazy how much you schedule is changing over at the new location. Could you maybe talk to them about your concerns and see if they can modify the schedule a little bit? I kinda think you should put in notice now as well and just HOPE that you find something soon. I really hope that you find something soon.

I do plan on talking to them about the 8:30's because it's just impossible. I already told them about the Saturdays and she told me she wouldn't start me on Saturdays right away and that it would be an occasional thing because I told her my kids all have activities every Saturday, but on the schedule I'm working every other Saturday. I'll have to figure out a way around it for now, and the later Thursdays and Fridays. I don't like it, and I desperately want to quit and just stay home for awhile with the kids. But that's not really the smartest thing to do right now when we're behind on everything and trying to figure out how to do Christmas.

It's good to have a small job than nothing. at least you can earn a little. Finding a job recently is not that easy. so be grateful that even it is small and takes less money its worth it.

This job will not be enough money to pay bills for long, but the money I will be making the next 6 weeks will help greatly.

i'm happy for you. sometimes a so-so job turns out to be the bridge towards a better job, say, through the people you meet there like co-workers or clients. or in my case, the company accepted a new project so i got free training. when it fizzled out, i searched for jobs in that field which i never even knew existed.

Plus it is always easier to find a job while you already have a job. I left my last job suddenly (my choice, it was a stupid choice because I didn't have anything lined up), so I am glad I found SOMETHING before long.

I do not work, I stay home and take care of my special needs child. I do think that is happening all over. Jobs are not paying what they used to. You have to do what you need to survive right now. They say more people are back to work, but they don't tell you that a lot of them are taking jobs that just pay minimum wage or just a bit over and a lot are part=time instead of full time jobs. Good luck with the new job.

I know some people have to work 2 or 3 part time jobs to make the amount of money they need to survive. This job is not enough money to live off of long term, but it is money for now. Thanks for the luck.

Wow I have to say congrats on getting a job that is exciting. I am glad that you have something that can help you out. I am doing some online stuff that I would not normally do, but anything is better and you are right on point with that. I hope that you have a great time with your job until you find something better. Good Luck.

Hi lily! If I will be on the same situation, I would not be choosy. I would take the job and while on it, I will try to find a better one. It is better than staying jobless for several months. Remember that during those months, we still have to earn in order for us to survive. Well, unless you are earning that much from online. Have a nice day!

Yes, I'd rather to be employed even if it doesn't pay me well or did not meet my expected salary than to be unemployed. I can see myself to be worthless if I do not get hired by any promising company unless if I have a small or even not that large business that I can handle.GOOD LUCK anyway..It seems you are still lucky you got the job before the year ends.

I know some people who refuse to even apply for jobs that pay less than they feel they are worth because the work in beneath them. I agree that a job that barely pays the bills is better than no job at all.

It doesn't matter these days specially if you are in need of money to supplement your family needs. Call it a blessing and someday you will be able to land a permanent job. Also, someday you will be making more than you have ever dream. Take for instance, myself, I moved to the United States and I have a foreign degree basically because I have earned my education in my home country. I first got a job at department store (Macy's), it only pays $8.60, while I was working I am also looking for full time job. Eventually, I got the full time (in my field of expertise) and I am earning almost triple per hour that I was making at Macy's. Strive hard and you'll get there. Good Luck and Congratulations

I really need to go back to school and get a degree, so that I can get a job that pays well and I might actually LIKE it as apposed to the jobs I keep getting.

it is better than nothing as you`v said..there`s nothing wrong in taking a job with a salary lower than your making before..at least you have a job instead of being jobless.. its so hard to find a job nowadays so treasure what you have right now..

Congratulations! I struggled so often to find work back in the bad old days and my search was mostly unsuccessful and I would end up in horrid jobs that were really hard and drove me crazy and sent me home exhausted. Just remember, the day will come when you can RETIRE and never have to go to work again! This is the best time of my life and believe it or not, I work happily at volunteering.

i have been working where i work for 6 years and i haven't been getting very many raises (because the company is not for profit) but i really like working there and it is probably more than i would get on unemployment.

I was making good money at my last job, but I hated it! I think I would take a job I liked, but didn't get paid enough over a job that I hated but got paid well at.

Hi lilybug! Congrats on the temp job. Just remember, it can always turn in to something full time. I have been with my current job for several years but if I was unemployed, I would take a job paying less to have a job. One of the biggest issues right now though is that the unemployment that some people are eligible for is more than what they would make if they were working in some of these jobs that have replaced the jobs before them. Makes it hard for them to throw that money away and work for less.

My friend is in the same shoe as you did in 2012. She left a job paying $3000 because of downsizing in the company. She is now holding a temporary job earning just $7 an hour.

At the moment I would pretty much take any kind of job:P As long as it has some basic standards. I am not much concerned if it pays more or less than my previous job, as long as it pays the bills. And of course many times temporary jobs are good as well. You can get some nice references for a future job, that can help you get a better paying job afterwards. :)

Yes, a good job reference for the future is a plus. It will only be about 6 weeks till this job is over, but it is 6 weeks of earning some money rather than nothing.

There is always a change of staying on after the end of the year, but I am not putting any faith in that and continuing to look for something full time and permanent.
