Lenonid Meteor Shower This Weekend

This is a great article on the Leonid meteor shower expected to happen tonight. It says the best time to see anything is midnight to 4 a.m. Are you usually awake that time, during the week? What about on weekends? I am wondering if I should make a point to stay up and watch any activity that time or not. My chances of seeing it are probably slim to none. Would you want to stay up or not bother? I think the likelihood of seeing anything is one time in 5 minutes, on average. I could be patient for 5 minutes but probably not that much longer cause it is a lot of trouble for me to get to sleep and then stay asleep after waking up most of the time. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/17/leonid-meteor-shower/1707853/

Where I currently live is sort of in line with the lower Rockies and is probably not a good viewing area. On top of that the city lights interfere and I would have to drive to the other side of the mountain to have a dark sky and we are expecting clouds. A long time time ago when I lived in Texas and was in graduate school I laid out on the back of a car in our driveway and watched a very good meteor shower and I think it was the Leonid. It could have been the 1966 one which was supposed to have been so good. I think it was earlier in the night which also made it easier. Now it is too cold and too much in the middle of the night for me to even try especially with the limited visibility that is expected. Seeing a really great one though is something that is well worth everyone doing at least once in their lifetime.

I was only 3 in 1966 so a bit too young to know what it would have been. I just hate that I forgot to stay up and watch it last night. I would have loved to see it. I'm not even sure if this is a good place to view it but I would have tried if I had to, anyways.

Did you get to see it? Or did you forget about it like I did? I wonder if anyone else saw it. I have to ask around.

You don't have to wait until even 2 am. I went out last night at one. I had to wait about two or three minutes for my eyes to adjust from the light but after that I saw about 5 a minute, maybe even more. Last night wasn't as good as the last one about a month ago. But I love meteor showers. it was a clear night and no moon, but it was also cold, so I only stayed out for about ten minutes.

How lucky are you!! I wish I could have seen it. I actually forgot about it and then slept through it. Argh. I'm glad you saw it though, it sounded like something exciting!!

I use to work midnights, so we use to watch outside the entire shift. A few summers ago the moon (I cant remember now), I got some horrible pictures form my phone, but we stood outside and watched the entire thing.

I would definitely stay awake for something like this, especially taking into consideration that I have stayed even more for things less important and I usually stay awake about around 1-2 A.M. every day. Unfortunately I'm not living in any of the areas described in the article, so probably I will just watch TV, waiting for some news about it.

I actually forgot about it and slept all through it. Ugh. I hate that did that. I was supposed to set an alarm to wake up at about 1 a.m. Oh well. I guess I missed it.
