I just read news the Walmart workers are trying to walk out during Black Friday. The walk-out already start right now, and it's already happening in some states. Apparently Walmart is paying minimal wages for employees. To cut cost, Walmart is going to cut portion of their contribution to employees health care. Walmart is one of the richest company in states, and the employees are living with welfare. How ironic is that? Walmart is good with their pricing, but to cut the cost, labour cost is their major target. Employees got suffered. So is this good or bad? People wants cheap stuffs. Company needs more profit. The way out is to cut labour cost. It is not the only way to boost profit or cut cost, but it becomes one of the most targeted strategy for big corporate. Big corporation sometimes don't understand that manpower is their asset. They often do not see this side. Company only sees employees as cost. There are a lot more ways to get profit, if you hire a good asset. The good assets will be able to find ways to make both company and employee happy. What is your opinion on this?

You are taking the sides of the company. What if you are the worker? You like to get paid minimum wage for years?

A little harsh there Maria, but I honestly can not disagree with anything that you say

Hello mariaperalta, despite the severe tone of your response you have a valid point. far too often someone goes for an interview hoping to get the job at the rates offered, but as soon as they are employed they complain about the pay rate. As you say, there are a lot of people who envy them and would love to have the job instead.

Don't you think that employees who work on Black Friday should receive some sort of extra-incentive as well? It's absolutely chaotic and sometimes dangerous.

From the news, not many people like working at Walmart. You are one of the odds ones. I guess from the perspective of earning extra as part-timers, it's better to earn minimum rather than sitting on the couch and doing nothing. But I can't imagine if it is a full time work. People can't survive with minimum wage. These are the people who complaints, I guess.

If a person is not happy with the employment that they have then I would have thought that the obvious solution would be to look for another job. Imagine what a large workforce Walmart must have for each store, so a pay rise would be a very costly thing, which in turn would possibly give rise to a slightly higher cost per item and the end result is that Walmart is no longer as popular. I doubt if the company will concede to those demands.

Walmart has been sucking its employees dry for years. They pay the lowest wages possible and seem to discriminate against the sexes. I know several people who work at Walmart and I don't think I could handle it. I rarely shop Walmart. I might hit them up for a one a month or every other month grocery shopping trip.

All of this type of stores need to see that the people who work the floor are the backbone of the organization. They keep the stock moving and make sure the products are there to be purchased. Walmart does pay above minimum wage and they do give raises. The staff cuts should begin with management. They have too many who think they run the store, when, in reality, it is the associates who do all the work.

Absolutely right. The one who makes customers come back is the associates. The one who get paid big bucks are the management. That's life.

its had to find a very loyal, hard working employees.. for me they should value there employee..there salary is minimal but at least they do have health care but i guess if they cut the cost of the health care that is just a natural reaction.. that happens to me before.. we dont have increase its okey at least we still have health care but when they cut the cost of our health care our company lost lots of good employees.

I think they SHOULD walk out! Black Friday is such a joke. Stores should not be opening on Thursday and ruining everyone's holiday. Its very sad to think our society is so obsessed with saving that we are okay with ruining other people's holiday. I have heard a lot of people are boycotting the early hours this year. I hope that is true.

Personally a lot of this is all due to the upcoming Obama Care, and everyone is cutting back in a lot of ways in bigger corporations. They want to pay as little as possible, and cut everyone's hrs and Medical, etc. It is not about the workers anymore. It is about money. You would think WalMart would be more concerned about their employees, but many times the ones we go too have extremely long lines and poor cashier customer service due to the longer lines and no one else able to help speed up the lines.

I am not from America but I see the news sometime this week , I think if walmart was to pay more they will start to hire people and expect them to have better standard , since I am always hearing complain about their customer service . I think walmart is paying little because its a place where everyone can get a job no matter what . I also believe if they get raise a pay they will cut workers .

Well with Obama the cost for companies to provide their workers health care is increasing. I understand why walmart is cutting because they have A LOT of employees. Because each of their "Super stores" is so large they need to have many workers to cover every area and not be understaffed. If the health care wasn't so pricey they wouldn't have to make the cuts. I'm not going to be political but I don't think that it needs to be the way it is. I think we can have the insurance cost a little less so that companies like walmart don't have to make cuts like that. If they paid everyones health care and gave them the hours they are getting now they would go broke.
