Strange Habit, a disease or not?

What is a " habit" really? It is a disease or not? This is question in my mind that lingers as i have noticed the strange habit of my friend, when ever she is idle specially watching TV, she will soak her feet with water - ankle high. If there is no water on her feet, she could describe it as a life without an air. During night time, she will have a wet cloth on her feet too until she falls asleep and the same while at work, she will constant wet her feet with water. Do you think this is still within the normal behavior of man? Is there a cure or how to wean off such habit.

Some habits of people are weird but for them they find satisfaction in doing it for whatever reason. My strange habit now is putting vicks vaporub on my nose often even if I don't have a cold.

Hi averygirl, It is true indeed that she finds satisfaction on what she does. I could sense it makes her complete every time she does it. Thank you for the response.

Well, many people have one or more habit(s), which are not normal, or what we call as "strange". I think such habits are ok, if within limits. However, once the limit is crossed, it is a matter of concern.

Hi sweety_81, Thank you so much for the response. Yes your right, anything beyond the norm is already abnormal.

its a disease but not a uncurable one, under proper medication you can control it and its only in your hands all the time, just relax and take it lightly for sure

Hi, Really it is a strange habit. But I don't think it is a disease. I think it would be very difficult for her when she is out of the house and she would feel restless because she can not keep her feet wet while watching TV or while sleeping. I never heard of such type of habit in my life.

Habits are just routines or behaviors that we repeat. Diseases are disorders or function or structure. It sounds more like your friend has a strange habit. It might have been brought about by a disease that she has. If it is not painful for her and she really wants to stop, I think she should try to change her behavior a little at a time, depending on her comfort level.

Hi Habibti, Thank you for the response, and i understand your explanation. I was thinking before she has psychological disorder. She is perfectly normal and no underlying disease or whatsoever that prompted her to do so. Its just simple strange habit.

Habit is doing something you are used to do always in the same way. It has nothing to do with a disease.

Wow that's kind of a strange habit. I mean what's the purpose of making your feet wet all the time? Did you try asking her what's her goal by doing that?
