the christmas season has started and i know some of you have started buying gifts for your kids, godchildren, nephews, nieces, etc. i just want to remind you to be very cautious in choosing the gifts for your loved ones especially the kids. i saw in the news about toys which have high lead content. these are really poisonous. also avoid buying toys with some removable small parts because they might be swallowed by the kids.

I think when u buy a toy for a child you should look and see if there are any warning labels or how the toy is made or what parts it comes with. Most people don't do that and they should. Even i should when buying a toy for my niece or nephews. Thank you for this discussion. This is very important.

That's true! I agree. We should be more responsible when buying toys for kids especially if their health will be in danger."Better safe than sorry". After all, the happiness & safety of our kids are the only thing that can make us reassured. :-)

You're right. We should not buy toys that can poison our children, godchildren, niecesand nephews. We don't want this Christmas to be their last Christmas. We should choose toys carefully. It's better if we'll give them other things aside from toys like books for example. We should not give children under 3 years old some toys with removable parts. They might get choke on them. Let's check if the toys are for ages 3+, 6+, 8+, etc. Thanks for these reminders. Happy mylotting.

As much as possible, dont buy toys that are made from China since they are high in lead and they are dangerous to health. Maybe you can just buy them clothes instead.

i heard about that news as well, and it really alarmed me specially we have kids at home. I think we can just avoid giving toys made with lead content as gift. Let's just give the kids something useful like dress or anything they would use for a long period of time.

You are absolutely correct. In the Philippines, there's this place called Divisoria where cheap items are sold but it is not guaranteed that the items undergo tests or investigations from government agencies that will prove that it is safe and lead-free. Thanks for reminding the Filipino people!

Yes, I heard about it over TV news for sometime already. I just hope that the sellers would be responsible enough to sell those that are safe. But then our consumers are also to blame because they would usually buy the cheapest there is in the market that is why some sellers are selling these dangerous toys as well because there are willing buyers of these dangerous toys. It is hard to monitor it since even some reputable malls also sell some of these toys and because they are wrapped well to look it is safe. I hope the government could give the necessary regulation to eventually stopped the selling of these dangerous toys out there in the market.

That won't be a big problem for me... i don't plan on giving gifts this Christmas because i don't have a job... but if i were... i sure would be very conscious in choosing the toys i would give... last year... my husband and i gave small toy cars... and they were manufactured by a well known company... i think most of the toys with the lead issue can be found in Divisoria...

I think most of these toys were made from China, but I guess most toys nowadays are made from there, even US brands. Like what was said on the news, we should always consider buying toys that are labeled 'non-toxic' But the problem here is that most of the less expensive toys don't have labels like this on them. We should also take note of the age suitability of the toy on its packaging. There's a very good reason why its there. Like what you said for example, some toys have small parts that are not ideal for toddlers.

Thanks for the information. It is really bad if the manufacturers make children's gifts which are dangerous for their health. Fortunately, there are always investigations at this time of the year, and most of these dangerous toys are not sold anymore after that. Also, people should be careful about the toys with the tiny parts, too. Or if the painted toy's paint would melt off, because kids tend to chew and lick their toys a lot.

just to remind you, as far as I know it's not only applicable to toys so try to be careful on anything or everything you want to give this coming Christmas. Yes, we should try to be more careful and observable on what we buy and ask things first like is it okay to give this to my son or try to check it's contents to avoid being poisoned.

I haven't gifted toys to my kid siblings or god kids. Usually, I give them clothes, shoes, or interactive books. I just prefer something more practical and something that I am sure they can put to good use. For clothes, I make sure its got the kid's favorite toy or cartoon printed on it to add to the joy factor.

Yes listen to the agency telling the safe toys over not safe ones. Or don't buy toys for kids as gifts, give them educational toys so you will help the parents too.
