Thanksgiving, in the US, is this Thursday. We don't really have any traditions except I get to cook the whole dinner and watch football all day. Wait, I guess that's a tradition. I like it. Not very creative, I know. What are some of your family traditions for Thanksgiving. We need some ideas.

When I was married we liked to break traditions--that is one of the many things I loved about my husband. I think we had 3 turkeys in the 19 years we were together! We've had prime rib that he prepared, we and the kids made homemade pizzas with anything we wanted. We've had ham, chicken cordon bleu that didn't turn out pretty but was delicious, and some things I've forgotten. Our tradition was to bread tradition! Although we did have a few "traditional" dinners. Afterward we would go for a drive in the desert and maybe a short hike. One year we went to a movie at the IMAX theater. When I was growing up we would go to our grandparents' houses for the holidays. We always, everywhere we went, had green bean casserole and candied yams.

You sound like the fun and adventurious family. You reminded me that we used to go see a movie after Thanksgiving dinner ... all three families. We took up a whole row. That was fun. I like your different menus too, especially prime rib. Sounds like Thanksgiving to me. A little out of the ordinary but festive.

Thanksgiving dinner is really the only tradition we have. My dad is usually the only one that watches football. The rest of us sit around talking and help clean up after dinner. Nothing exciting.

It's nice to just hang out though. I like our tradition of a turkey dinner and football. I think I would miss it if we didn't have it.

My family is scattered all over the place, so we don't get together for the major holidays anymore. For Canadian Thanksgiving in October my husband and I, currently living in Canada, look for a restaurant that's serving a turkey dinner. for american Thanksgiving, we order a chicken dinner from a place in town that serves wonderful chicken dinners. Hard to find turkey any time but Canadian thsnkgiving, but since my husband is American, we want to celebrate both!

Oh, I like the tradition of celebrating both. That's just sweet and a double blessing.
