..secession seems to be the trend these days

I think the Western World is gonna collapse.
Why? It seems that America and Europe has their own separatist problems. Although I live in Asia, I have long dreamed of visiting or traveling to the Western world. I was supposed to visit my aunt in Italy this year but I can't because of the Euro. My mother says it's just plain impossible because of the economic climate. There is an on-going crises and it blossomed into separatist movements even in Italy itself. Now, she's planning to move to London (due to the Euro) and guess what, they (UK, perhaps London too) are having a go at it too.
When I cast my eyes to America, it's quite the same. There are petitions for states to secede from the Union. America is once thought as a very stable country and now having the same problems. BTW, I like Ron Paul even if I can't vote for him. Shame he doesn't have a counterpart here.
I don't know what people feel about this movements but from an objective view, it seems that the problem is about politics (and the corrupt system) and economy. I guess everyone feels the hurt and they turn inward rather than outward. After all, if you could blame your neighbour, why not?
I guess I will be staying in my country for a little while. But I hope the situation improves. I don't think a Civil war will happen but a much more damaging occasion will rise up. People often have intense and negative emotions when they part and even if they stay together. There I wll be grudges, I assume. Is separation the choice? Maybe.
In the past, Europe and America were the leaders in progress. I just hope that Asia becomes stable. If it doesn't, I don't know where to turn to. Africa, maybe and the safari.

Well I can't speak for Europe, but here in the good old USA, all the states are talking secession-- but they can't do it legally, unless all the congressmen agree-- and even if they did, the government won't let them. Americans are just plain fed up (about half are, anyway--myself included)-- and we have a right to be. Thanks to voter ignorance (not stupidity, lack of knowledge) and media bias, we are once again stuck with the O man. These things happen, but we certainly didn't need this right now-- things are already in shambles from the last 4 years. Our political system is messed up-- nothing new there-- but it has never been as bad as this in my memory. Of course, I am missing my memory from 1976-2010, but still-- I really see the difference because of that, where many people don't see it as badly.
Ron Paul, huh? Our perpetual candidate
. Not a bad man, though some of his policy ideas are a little bit much. We won't split up here, at least not secession-- but I wouldn't rule out anything else at this point. Who knows, maybe Ron Paul will run yet again next election-- if we have a next election. My vote is essentially useless anyway-- but I still vote, every time.

I think that this movement aims just that. I tihnk nobody would really like to secede since there is some federal institutional that will have to be broken. Also, these states have to be a self-sustaining nation,if possible in this very economic riddled world.
I think I also read somewhere that the last secession turned resulted in a civil war. that is not funny nor pretty. But I think your government(and I also think) should tihnk about the nation more. If people are resorting to this kind of movement, there are big problem and people want the big guys to focus their attention to these issues.
I don't comment on Us politics but some of your personalities are just too hilarious, like Bachmann. I don't know but watching her is like of a comedy drive for me.
Regarding political system - I empathize, this is also a noblemen in mine.
Your last line pretty much surmise my attitude about voting but I may not exercise this time around.

I ALWAYS vote. We have lots of supposed rights over here, and a lot of freedom and privilege, even now-- and all we have to do in return is 3 things, really-- jury duty, pay taxes and vote. I am low income so I don't pay taxes, and I am no longer allowed on juries, due to illness-- all I have left is my vote, futile though it may be. To me there is no higher responsibility for any citizen in a country where it's allowed than voting responsibly (of course over half my fellow Americans don't know what responsible voting means-- they vote the party, or in their own interest. It's sad).

Don't worry. my country votes on a scheme that I also don't understand. I think that we vote on a popularity basis. Unlike in yours, we have numerous parties and sometimes,I can't keep track. they are all old faces or names. We e even have political dynasty here (sort of the 2 bush presidents). Anyway, I still might change my mind but nobody's offering a good platform just good old entertaining the public.

Euro is just a money, and I cannot believe that somebody would not travel because of it
. Separatist movements in Western Europe are peaceful and a bit folkloric. The only country in the Euro zone that will perhaps be divided in the future is Belgium, because there is 2 different speech communities with different opinions, though it would not change anything for a tourist : both will certainly keep the Euro, and there are no real borders inside the Euro zone. It will not be the same for UK if Scotland says yes to the independence referendum in 2014. Maybe it is not the good timing to move to London

I don't exactly know the ranking of countries when it comes to financial disaster. I just hear Greece has been the worst case for a year and so (based on international news). I don't know where the UK or Italy's place. But I think it if Scotland secedes, both countries will have an inflation but there will share a common currency (the pound). Getting higher tax and spending cuts will be unavoidable for both if they want to stay afloat. Also,I don't know how the UK distributes its wealth and how much revenue the oil bring.
