Should PH Forget America and embrace China?

Philippines

Hello Lotters, If you asked me, that's a load of crap! This country is nothing more than a communist state that the government rules on every thing, having their businesses as a cover up to their ideal beliefs. I don't know, maybe he's just too brainwash with what's happening in China, he doesn't realize that this is another form of dictatorship besides the United States. Dr. Martin Jacques has no clue about the Philippines and it's people no matter how weak we are. I feel insulted by his attempt to just embrace china and just forget United states? the country that gave PH freedom and expression? "the sentence "LOOKING DOWN" on others doesn't qualify to me as an advance civilization but just another stupid tyrant nation! not a referral link. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/-depth/11/21/12/author-forget-america-future-ph-bound-china I don't even see majority speaking or learning Filipino as a way to reach us. IF China wants to take our side, they should be the one having a better negotiating in the table to benefit our people. What do you think? i rather die free than bowing at their feet.

Why forget America? It would be wise not only for the Philippines but for the whole Asian region to play both cards for now.

China in a way for economics and trade while the U.S. also for economics and trade and at the same time security and keeping the balance of power in the region.

Hello Louievill, Yeah, with out United States they will rip us apart. I just don't understand these politicians why they are so against the VFA or having a joint training with United States Forces. Let's face, we screw up, had our chances to be a strong country but has severely failed because of corruption

agree, they will not rip us apart so long as the U.S, shift or pivot to Asia is in place and so long as the mutual defense pact is in place and we help the U.S. economy with what little we can do and keep our economy strong as well, we are getting stronger but we cannot match a richer nation toe to toe so we really have to rely on defense pacts with countries with similar interests. Don't worry, minimal defense for our country is now in progress even as we speak, defense spending although not free from total corruptions but have been lessened are on the way, the Navy now has a new vessel tracking system (VTS) for command and control to monitor ships, we just have to be a little patient and show our allies that the Philippines is no weakling!! My God we held our ground during WWII that saved and bought time for Australia from being conquered, anybody planning to conquer us will find the Philippine another Afganistan in Asia!

Well it may be practical but I guess with China being a bully to other nation and even in their own turf, it would not be a good thing to embrace them totally just because they are near us and that. We can just see how Cambodia who is very close to China that they could easily be influenced and I think is afraid of antagonizing them else they would lose support from them. I think we as a country do not want that since we are freedom loving people and I think even though we are called to be puppets of US at least we are given the freedom still by these country, unlike China who will definitely would not respect our sovereignty if given the chance to.

Hello Rsa101, If they don't want to respect us just because we want peace as a sign of cowardice, then they will get what they want. we are not afraid to fight but i think the real hate is against the government and the people there are also opressed. they will invade us if they get the chance

Well I am looking forward still in a peaceful resolution of all this thing about territorial dispute. I still believe that armed resolution is the last option in here. I think the amicable settlement would be the best option although I know this would entail a lot of time and it may take a lifetime and a lot of diplomatic maneuvering that would happen in here. Armed conflict would not either solve anything I believe since that will just put a lot of lives at risk and we are not in the olden times that armed conflicts are the way to solve things. We have seen that in a lot of things lately and it just got worst and a lot of people suffer because of that.

I don't want an armed conflict happening, they seemed to be a possible settlement i,. I don't how will we live if a war or conflict come out. some how i think china won't in this powerstruggle that they're having. they're pushing other people away and unable to get along because they think they should have this claim

Why would anybody dared to suggest that the Philippines embrace china? Knowing well that China's communist ideologies do not auger well with a predominantly strong Christian population. China maybe the world economy powerhouse but their capability in being a guardian to a third country is untested and likely to be a shame due to their unacceptable political dogma. At this point in time china is almost on par with the US in strength and the nearness of china to the Philippines might have been the reason that some political pundits suggest that Philippines embrace china. I would think that such suggestion is only undermining the intelligence of the Filipinos.

Hello Zandi, the author is seriously one sided and doesn't think of the other side. only to be blinded by the so called rise of china. don't they realize that japan did the same thing in the 1940's? they failed as the guardian of the Asian Nation and instead bully those who are weak and can't fight in the sea. it's rather insulting for a country, not only christian, but also muslim and diverse. they more projected as dictator than the US.

Both of this countries play a big role in our economy. For me, personally America or China we cannot forget them both. We must embrace them both. Chinese and Americans play a big factor in our history, from early settlers to this present days. I think the best to avoid conflicts is proper information and accepting the law of the international seas. It's not a question of being a big or small country but how a country served its people with dignity, peace and respect.

Hello Pals, The guy is an idiot wanting us to abandon america and completely embrace the chinese communism. We have been trying to communique and prefer a join ownership but china is way too greedy to begin with. That's true we cannot forget them both, but china is different now, it's becoming more aggressive each time they discussed about the islands. if they remain in their path it won't last long, that's for sure.

China is a totalitarian state that is obsessed with grabbing the entire South China Sea all by itself even it means bribing lowlife country like Cambodia and perpetuating lies that could have been upheld if not for the righteous intervention of President Aquino. There are no taking sides with arrogant and invasion-prone country like China. They think just because they are awashed with money now that they can build up their military force and threaten peaceful nations like Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia and Borneo into giving up their territories. Its not wrong that we are taking a stand against this bully nation called China. And there is also nothing wrong having a strong and close ally like USA to help us in times of trouble like this.

Hello Greenpeas, not to mention we have a mutual defense treaty with United States. I never heard China offering us help in expanding our military. they offered help for a water damn and a rig for the gas expansion plant or something. Sad to know that the so called host of ASEAN is controlled grip by China.I can never trust china, even though this jacques character is so confident in them. they are indeed a totalitarian nation like Japan once.I think this guy is brainwashed is not seeing the "other side" of china.

Funny, sometimes I think the Phil.is the 52nd state of America or something. since we have 'special relationship' with them. Anyway, China may be a world power and the Us might not be well. Whoever, it cannot be disputed that US still carries a lot of clout. Just look at the UN and otehr int l. orgs. usually, the US heads them. China might be powerful in money but they aren't pleasant when it comes to int'l relations. Money might be power but it doesn't buy you friends or make everyone agree to unless it's by force. Also, I think that we cannot ignore china but China, in return shouldn't ignore us and lump us.

Hello jeanneyvonne, I still think United States is a World Superpower because of their influences through out our history. Compare to China, US still has a lot of fire power in the Area 51 which is top secret compare to China. However, China is a country that likes to imitate weapons and fighter planes coming from other countries. probably United States still prefers negotiation rather than War. i think they have learned a lot of lessons from their past conflicts.

No system is perfect and the people running the government are not perfect after all. Forgetting America is kinda harsh though in reality the US has done so many vile and covert deceptions than any other country in this world since history began. There are a lot of past events in our Philippine history books which need to be corrected. I do hope the truth will come out someday.

Filipinos are intelligent beings. We could be innovative given a chance. We could stand on our own if we want to. We could surpass any nation given the talents we have.
