Philippines on the top list again

I just heard in the radio that Philippines is in the top list again. Before, it was the happiest persons in the world, but now Philippines was considered to be the most emotional country in the world. Ironic? From happiest to most emotional. I think I somewhat agree with this one. Based on my observations, most Filipinos are very reactive to some issues. Sometimes, they get small issues sensationalized wherein they threw up their emotions and reactions on a such issues. How about you fellow Filipinos what are your insights about this latest report? Good day!

Well, considering all the junk I see on TV called dramas/soap operas, I am not surprised anymore by this result. Media is feeding people with emotional trap so people get emotional instead of entertained--of course, it would all result to people reacting on impulsive emotion now more than on practical reasons. It's also one of the reasons why we become idiots instead of being insightful, right?

I think this must be a good consideration. With all the things we saw in TV, we tend to acquire those being emotional.

For me a person who is too emotional is an idiot and a very practical person is a jerk. There should be a balance between the two. Our society are acting like idiots, in my opinion. They react without getting the whole circumstance of a certain situation and most of the time lack the full information before they impulsively act toward a decision. A bad decision means a bad end. It's as what my little sister says, "Huwag gayahin and ginagawa ng mga matatanda kasi nakakatawa ito sa mata ng mga bata." (Don't follow what the adults do because it's funny in the eyes of children.)

@Sinful. I think it's not being an idiot but we wear our hearts in our sleeves too much. We are easily swayed and sometimes even the most logical decision is based on emotion (elections for one thing. We don’t even see or use reason. The important question will always be - they hurt us and that we all see.

I don't agree with those survey that conducted by any companies. Why there was different opinion and different year. Why does they say before that Filipino's has the most happiest there after the Filipino's are most emotional what is going on? Those survey is not accurate and they are manipulated to get attention from the public. Where did they do that survey and who are those respondent?

I agree with you, friend. But I don't agree with the survey at all because they can't clearly state who are the respondents and where did they conduct the survey? They are deceiving the public in such way. I don't understand why they publish such terrible news. Show the world that Filipino, is emotional in particular?

I think the survey does not represent the entire population.

I think being emotional mean you are happy, sad, angry and anything you might think of emotions. This does not necessarily means that we are the saddest after getting the survey of being happy. This only means that we are free to share what wwe really feel inside.

I guess its true, a lot of Filipinos are like that. We really can't blame them because we are grown to care for our family. This values impact a lot when we grow up. For me, its just normal, people differ a lot in many ways depending on their culture, tradition and society where they grown up.

You are right, culture has made a great impact in this issue. I also heard the el salvador is the next one with a very small difference. Singapore if the lasat one in this category.

I think this survey is somewhat true...because, as you said, we Filipinos tend to be very reactive to some issues....we tend to sensationalized a small issue so it become big and even becomes a trending topic in social networking sites....
• Philippines

You are right. I really noticed that even a small issue, it was made sensationalized particularly on the social networking sites.

I heard that over the news, too. I wasn't surprised, and I think being emotional has its advantages, too.

I agree with you. It does not only have the advantage of showing what you feel but it has also something to do with your health.

This is somehow true because as you know, we filipinos are very reactive to whatever is happening around us specially if it's about our family and friends. However, nowadays, it seems that we are using this trait in a wrongly way like we keep on reacting on bad things.
• Philippines
26 Nov 12
Yes, you are right, some Filipinos are really reactive even on small issues. They made it sensationalized especially when big names are involved in the said issues.

I seem to believe that one since I am seeing that there are a lot of people that are just too sensitive to many small issues in life. I think you can see that in many aspects of life be it personal or professional.
• Philippines

You are right, even small things, Filipinos made it a big issue which in reality an issue that is normally happening in daily life. Only got sensationalized since big names are linked to such issues.

I don't know how the media could brand the Philippines as the most emotional country in the world. That is not felt by any foreigner stepping in your shore. From what I gathered on my many visits to your country and with the Filipinos friends I have here, they are always putting up a cheerful face and I noticed that the filipinos are great singers too. The joy in their hearts are translated in their melodic voice. Media could have aptly say that the Filipinos are united people and are patriotic to their country and are God fearing people considering the strength of Christianity in your country.

Thanks for that great comment with Filipinos. I think there are criteria that has been set to consider this one. I believe that being emotional does not only mean being sad. As far as I know, some questions in the survey includes if they are being respected, get angry, stressed and other feelings they encountered for the day. I guess being emotional does not mean being sad which is often equated.

Remember that happiness is an emotion as well. Perhaps what they meant is the fact that we express ourselves far more than our other neighbors in Asia. Perhaps that's the main reason why we got to the list. It's not always bad afterall. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

I think yes, it is the way we express our emotions. I heard that the questions in the survey type study includes if they are being stressed, respected, got angry, happy or sad, etc. Which really makes Filipons emotional due to being expressive.

I do not consider it being emotional rather it is being TRUE and HONEST. At least FILIPINOS are not HYPOCRITE or PRETENDERS- unlike other who pretend to be fine and insensitive but deep inside they're killing others.
• Philippines
22 Nov 12
I think you got a point there. I agree with you that most Filipinos are not hypocrite in terms of expressing their emotions. This might be the possible reason for making us on the top list.

It is true. We are a very emotional people. We become ecstatic over small things and we get depressed at practically nothing. Are we bipolar? LOL
• Philippines
23 Nov 12
I think we do.. hehehe...I think we are just expressive on what we have inside.
• Philippines
22 Nov 12
I agree. I guess this si a reaosn why I am too emotional and some Filipino netizens gets overreacting when it comes to an issue. It's almost a knee-jerk reaction. I think we get offended easily and easily pleased if someone (particularity a foreigner) tries to ruffle our feathers.
• Philippines
22 Nov 12
Yes, most Filipinos are really reactive when it comes to criticism in our country, but did they thought of being criticized by other citizen if Filipino is the one that will touch rthe feathers of others?
• Philippines
22 Nov 12
It's true. It's another way of saying we are expressive. We are very open in expressing our emotions. That also means, we are not passive. Maybe having our freedom of expression is a big thing that contributed to this title. We speak our thoughts freely and so our emotions are seen easily.
• Philippines
22 Nov 12
I think you got a point there. I believe that Filipinos are free of expressing emotions which makes us to the top list. Being emotional does not mean of being sad.

Pinoy - From happiest to most emotional.
It just shows that we, Filipinos are not plastic but also easy to judge without fully understanding or grasping the situation. It show our humanity and our capacity to laugh and make fun even on disasters. I can't see no irony from happiest to being the most emotional; it does shows that we have the ability to fully understand fear, anger, and happiness. But it does demonstrate we use more of our heart than with our brain. Hope we you use more of our brain this coming election! Have a great morning. Ciao!

I hope this one too. I think you are right, we Filipinos are really expressive with our own emotions and feelings. I think being emotional does not make irony with being happy. Sometimes, we equate emotional to sadness. Being emotional includes all the feelings we had.

Hi I am a Filipino. It saddens me to hear this news. Where did you get this information I'd like to read the whole article? In my opinion, yes it looks like there have been changes in our country but I'd like to believ that our happy spirit is not loss. I remember seeing pictures of Filipinos smiling despite the heavy monsoon rains (Habagat). We can actually turn sad moments like that into happy one like using the flood waters in the street as a beach water, pretending that they are in a vacation. However, in my opinion we also had to look closely at what we are watching. Majority of the television shows focuses on the sad facts of life. I think we should have more comedy shows to lift up dampen spirits. The television shows are just one thing, there are more factors like politics, economics, and others that probably made the Filipino people emotional.

I think you got a good point there. I haven't read the article yet. Here is the article http://www.rappler.com/life-and-style/16564-good-or-bad-ph-ranks-as-the-most-emotional-country-in-the-world. I think cnsidering being emotional includes from happy to sad.

I guess that to be categorized as being the country with the most emotional people are kind of general because in my opinion, being happy is an emotion as well. Yes, I do believe that Filipinos are emotional. Maybe it has something to do with the culture we have. We have many literatures, as well as movies and television programs which value love and concern for others. We absorb those teachings and then without really noticing, we apply them in real lives. Like when something bad happen to others, we feel sad eventhough they aren't related to us. I think that it is a normal reaction for humans, and I think the Filipinos, in a way, used it in a more positive ways. Although there is there certain news where a girl scolded this lady guard, I think that this happens lesser in our country than of others. I think that we are known to be more considerate of other people's feelings.

I agree with you, being emotional does not necessarily being sad or happy. It includes all of the emotions we feel. Like what you said, we easily adopt everything we see in TV, internet and other media. I thibk it is better to be emotional than emotionless person at all.

I think the basis for considering being emotional includes being happy not only being sad. This is often a misconception when you are considered emotional. They always think that you are sad.

Hi there ! Emotional that includes being happy not only being sad , lonely and angry. These were the influences from the Spaniards. That is why no matter how down and problematic a Filipino is , still he knows how smile and carry problems under pressure. Filipinos are very flexible.God bless the Filipinos.

I agree with you, even we have problems we still managed to smile and laugh. Yes, being emotional does not only depend on how sad you are. This is a common misconception when they heard the word emotional, they often refer to this one as being sad.

Hi friend, I'm a Filipino as well and I do agree that we are the most happiest and most emotional people in the world. Even if we encounter a problem we would be able to see something positive about it. We can even joke about our problems. That's our way of dealing with our problems. It's also true that we are emotional. We value our feelings and defend what we believe. We are in a democratic country and we are free to express our emotions.

I think you are right, this is one of our traits that we value our emotions or feelings. I think the news is not bad at all since being emotional is both being happy and sad.

I agree on that. Most Filipinos are emotional as in family, friends, relatives, and even to strangers. When something happens to their neighbors, all of them are around looking and listening on the situation. Being happiest however is the natural sense of humor of the Filipinos. Good day!

I agree with you, when it comes to relationship with others, we are really emotional. We tend to connect to them in everything. I guess you are right, being happy is considering the sense of humor of Filipinos.
