I am an older person here. I was in 6th grade and saw the black and white video of President Kennedy assasinated. I remember it like it was yesterday. The schools let us all out early and there was even crying on the bus. President John F. Kennedy touched so many hearts even those of elementary children. We were taught pride, honor, and respect. When I turned 18 I went in the Army during the Vietnam War. I had respect of the military, and country. I voted through the years. I have never been faithful to Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. I would change my choice to vote for who I thought would defend the country and honor us as Commander in Chief. I am proud to have known some VERY great Generals. I am proud today to still honor them and respect. So today, while we voted for the president recently, for some they cannot wrap their head around why their candidate did or did not win. But coming here and just talking, we can choose to be like Congress, and just blame the other side. Or We can choose to join each other across this nation that many men and women me included laid down our lives if we had to to keep our nation free and families safe at home. Ok now you are asking what is she talking about? read this link under President Kennedy. he was a Democrat. He wanted to see peace and resolution in all areas for our country. I truly wish our Congress, with the help of even ourselves, stop fighting each other, because in the end, I would hope we all want peace and prosperity in our future. There is not a right republican side, or a right democrat side. We are torn between the aspect that Congress cannot come to decisions because one or the other try to hold it over each others heads, and then a President that says no matter what Republicans do he will veto. So I am enclosing this link on President Kennedy. This is the peace I would like to value again, and see Congress and the United states come together and work for the sake of our Values of being able to live in our great country of the United States. http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/johnfkennedy

Lets start with JFKs most famous quote - ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. This just simply is not the mind set of America. It is about "free money", "free gas", "free cell phone". food stamps, energy bills, and the list goes on and on. Then you have the idiots protesting our military. Enjoying that freedom of speech that that disabled vet fought so hard for you to keep. Then there is that little blue print for our country, that antiquated piece of paper we so fondly call our Constitution that our government AND the people only want to use when it benefits them. Now flash on the current administration that makes no bones about class warfare, race baiting and plenty of other divisive directives. Come together? I don't think you will see it again in your lifetime.

A friend on here posted something I found very profound. She said that each one of us who carry that truth within us must survive and pass it on. Keep speaking of it, keep posting it, don't allow anyone to silence you whether by intimidation, fear of punishment, or something more insidious like peer pressure and public opinion. Do not let the knowledge of government for and by the people perish from the earth.

I agree and luckily I am stubborn enough to not be silenced! But I am finding smarter ways. I let people come around to the idea on their own. Before they even know what happened, they end up conservative! lmao

During the RNC, the governor of New Mexico, Sussanna Martinez, who started her political career as a Democrat went to dinner with two of her Republican peers. She told her husband before hand that they would be bombarded with reasons to switch parties and they'd have to stand firm and not give in. After a night of discussing the issues and finding all sorts of agreement, she said to her husband on the drive home....My God, I think we're Reupublicans! All the things she personally agreed with were not to be found hin her party, but were part of the Republican platform. Many Blacks and Latinos are very conservative on the social issues, in fact several Black pastors came forward during the campaign and said to their congregants, do not vote Democrat, either vote Republican or don't vote at all, because of the radical turn on abortion and gay marriage being embraced by leftists within the Democrat party. Not to mention the taking reference to God out of the official platform that occured. It has been the twisting and lying by leftists on what Republicans want or will do that keeps these conservatives within the minority communities from voting for conservatives for president. They seem to vote for them within their communities and states though.

People keep talking about the wide gap between the liberals and the conservatives. This is only true in their public speaches. It is not true in their actions. The liberals are just as likely to back big business as the conservatives, and they both are for growing bureaucracies. But, most of all they all want POWER! As long as power and money are involved, no one will ever cooperate. Problems will never be solved. The only way to stop this insane power grab is to render it impossible. Make all Congressional and Senate terms 2 years long with a two term limit...No retirement...no free healthcare...And cut the salary.

Many are speaking up for a NEW party, to abandon the Republican party. I see this a possibly good, but then again, I am cynical and think even the best of the best can be corrupted by power. And without the limits on gaining that power, due to our Constitution not being followed, anything is possible.

One commentator summed it up by saying that President Obama promise that the government will take care of you and you can survive and enjoy life. Gov Romney said that if you take responsibility for your self and work hard you have a chance to be successful and enjoy life and your success. The majority of the voters choose to let the government take care of them and some of those did not want to have to work. Remember in this country we tax hard work and success. If you make money by working or through risking in investments you are taxed. If you receive government assistance - not working - you are not taxed. Put simply work and and the government takes your money - don't work and the government will give you money. How long can that go on?

Totally agree with you Bob! Been awhile since I got to read your comments. I worked since I was 15, 18 went in the Army, got married had children and opened my own small business. Had it 25 years. When last child went into school I went back out in the work force. I worked until I was 55 When I was diagnosed with various ailments. Most are probably from me being in a medical career off and on. They put me on SSD. They told me I would be on medicare. I said I am already on tricare through my spouse do I need it? they told me NO. So I thought I was covered only to find out I had NO insurance coverage because I did not take the medicare which is first and tricare for life came in second. Seriously if people have insurance then WHY did we have to go on medicare when everyone is crabbing at the government dosing it out? And my husband still pays the same whether there is one or 100 of us is on tricare. So nothing makes sense to me anymore.

I agree with you completely. I think that if Kennedy had lived he would have been one of the best (if not the best) Presidents in our history. He was very much on the right track when he said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather ask what you can do for your country." If more people thought that way today, maybe our nation would be in better shape than it is now.

I think so too. I am 60 now and I still remember the day he was assassinated. I used to go to his grave when I was stationed in DC at Arlington national Cemetary. Such pride to be able to go in full uniform and salute him.

It is difficult if not impossible to come together with those who are so ideologically opposed to you. I agree, there are Democrats who are merely liberal, with a differing view on how to solve the problems. And for the most part, would compromise and Republicans found it within themselves to compromise with. NOW it is different. The very Leftist Democrats will NOT compromise with the conservative Republicans and yet demand they compromise. Harry Reid (Senate Majority leader) said he WOULD NOT WORK WITH ROMNEY if he was elected. John F. Kennedy was the last true Democrat in my estimation. He truly believed in his country, wanted to keep America great, and believed in our form of government and economics. There exists in the White House, a man who holds to very different views, he does not believe in capitalism as a viable economic system, he does not believe in America's greatness and exceptionalism and the Republic that made our past strength possible. How do you work together with someone who believes these things?

Kennedy would have been considered conservative by today's standards. The entire country has shifted left since then. The emergence of the tea party and other conservative groups are nothing more than traditional conservative, but when we compare them to a left shifted country, they seem extreme. The problem is that you now have two groups that are so extremely different than any compromise that both can agree on is such a huge move that it compromised core principals.

I think you are right Troublegum. While we vote these people in when we are seeing them do wrong, why in heavens name dont we stand as individual people and come together as a nation and say once we will try but two your out and give a new one a chance! I bet there would be more problems solved if WE THE PEOPLE would vote the old diehards out that continue to do as they please and not what WE THE PEOPLE want.
