When I have one hundred discussions and responses, I see star with a number on it. What's it mean? I see most of member in mylot have number from 8 to 10. But number of mine is 5. I don't know why.

The stars represent our Mylot reputations. We get them when our user rating reaches 100. 1 is the lowest. 10 is the highest. The Discussion Rating System (DRS) is one of the factors that affect the reputation stars, so in part it reflects how the other members here rate your discussions, responses, and comments.

I can understand from this conversation that based on the count of the posts made, the stars appear on your profile name.
But what was the first number or rating that you got?
Was it 5 directly or it went up from 1?
I am yet to get one :)

It can be any number from 1 to 10. It depends on how your participation is rated by other users.
I've read that some users have made it to 100 and had such low reputations that they didn't even have a star.
