Are you afraid of being all alone?

I seem to be afraid of being all alone before but now I get used to it. There are times also that it's better to be alone or with few people around than to be always surrounded by the crowd. As I am unemployed right now, I work at home and I can stay the whole day all by myself in our house and I lock the door so no one can come in. Then I will go home alone travelling from city to the province and I can do it by myself and I am not afraid. Sometimes I can go to malls and shop all by myself. I'm not a loner type in high school but I decided to just have one friend because when I try to be involved in a gang or a group, some group tends to annoy me every time and some even mistreated me. So, I decided it's not worth joining their group.

I use to think I needed some one with me so I wouldn't be alone. It was my biggest fear when my children were young, that would be they would leave the nest I would be alone. I found out I could survive being alone. If I didn't want to be alone, then I would spend time with friends.

That is true, someday parents will be alone as their children need to move on and have a life of their own. But since you are free, you can do whatever you want with your time.

The empty nest is pretty rough, or it was for me. I spent my 30's and 40's devoted to meeting my children's needs. Then I woke up and they were gone off to college and to their separate lives. I still work and I am so grateful to have a job to go to. I get tired enough when I work to not notice that I am alone. However, when I am between job assignments I get really lonely.

I'm not afraid to be alone. I'm just tired of being alone. I've been on my own since December 1999. My youngest daughter did come to live with me back in July this year and that's not so bad. She goes to middle school and I go to college. We talk about what happened at our schools. We go do laundry together. We go grocery shopping together sometimes. It's been really nice to know that there is someone here I can be with.

I think much better to alone because no can disturb you in whatever you want to do in life. I feel much comfortable also if I am alone because I don't want to be disturbed while doing my online jobs. Your decision to go away from a gang or group is good because you may avoid anything that is troublesome. Because most of the group today are involved in small crimes in the street.

You right, avery. Because sometimes group of people is difficult to handle when they are influence of something else? Better to be alone than to be with a group and cast into danger...

We need privacy and control and our personal space so we need to be alone at times. If we will be miserable more inside of a group then being on solo flight actually gives you more freedom to mingle with any people you like outside of a group.

Well we can get used to anything in life, it's just a matter of time but the thought is pretty chilling. I think it could be the biggest fear of the human being because we weren't meant to live in isolation. We can see that by the gatterings, events, everything of countless things society promotes everyday, it's like we are seeking company all the time.

I agree, even if we are in a crowd or a gathering with lots of people we still feel alone when we don't have the people that really cares for us. It's pretty chilling at first but then we can get used to it.

I am not really afraid to be alone, I am actually a bit of a loner but not to the point of being anti-social. I just prefer to enjoy activities by myself or do some things by myself. I do enjoy the company of some people but I don't hang around that much with a big crowd. But when I think about getting old, I think I will be afraid to be old and alone.

Well, all you said is what I also want to say. Sometimes it's fun to be alone but to grow old all alone, it's really sad but I knew someone in my place that lived that way.

I'm not afraid of being alone... at this time because I know I'm surrounded with people I love and cherish. I think I would be afraid if in the near future, I will find myself not being able to be with those people that I love and cherish because I will have to leave them due to my condition. I can't bear to see how things will be different for them if I am no longer with them anymore.

I'm not afraid of it, matter of fact, I felt like I've been alone all my life. I have God in my life but its been a while since I've felt like I belonged. I'm married with two great kids and a very supportive wife but past events, which I will overcome, have pushed me in a direction where I feel the only people who know me are my alter egos. I like doing things by myself, I can have more freedom that way but we still need people to help us through things. Don't stay alone forever, find that somebody you can just hang with.

I have no problem of being alone. When I am alone at home I can spend my time watching TV. Sometimes I read a good novel or motivation book. At times I go for movies to pass my time.

I also have no problem being alone. I get used to it. At first I am afraid but then at the end of the day I am not really alone.

Most of the time I am not afraid of being alone and there are even a lot of times that I rather enjoy being alone at home doing my work and just enjoying the peace and quiet. However, there is one situation that I can think of when I am terrified to be alone. It might sound really strange that I say this, but the time that I am afraid of being alone is when it is after dark and it is raining outside. I think that the reason that I have this irrational fear is because of the fact that I had a wild imagination when I was a child and I always thought that there was a serial murderer that was looking in the window whenever it was raining outside after dark. I've never been able to get over that fear.

Alone in dark it's really frightening but in broad daylight it's not a problem. You feel some sense of creativity when you are left alone in the house like you can do whatever you like without anyone complaining.

Hi, Being a loner since childhood, I am quite comfortable to be alone most of the time. Even if that has changed since I got married and had children, I still long for the time when I am alone by myself, doing things things my own way and be generally free to do what ever I want to be. As the song goes, "Lonely Don't Leave Me Alone."

Actually loner people do love people but they just love spending quality time by themselves and enjoy independence or the U time where no one will exercise control over us.

Yeah, its good to have a rest day where you are alone but when you are alone in the house better make it noisy with TV or radio because a quiet house attracts intruders.

In fact I am some one who likes to stay alone at home. I feel I can be free without any disturbance if I am alone. While travelling I would love to have a companion or two. If the journey is too long then kill time becomes difficult. I remember last month after celebrating Dushera at my native place, when I was returning by train (i.e. Howrah-Madras Mail) from Kolkata to Chennai (i.e. in India), I was alone. I was travelling a distance of 1662, it was so boring. First few hours I spent reading magazines and listening to music but after that I was feeling disgusted with the journey.

Some people feels great when they are alone at home and can do whatever they like at they own space. It's better to have at least one company when doing short travels.

This may sound strange but I am actually more afraid of NOT being alone, I actually prefer my own company, after growing up as an only child from a very young age I learnt to be independent, learnt to look after myself and amuse myself, but this had its disadvantages because at school I was picked on for being the loner and not part of a gang. I have had several abusive relationships so now I value my freedom to the extent that at 41 years old I am more than happy to spend the rest of my life alone, well alone is the wrong word, because alone sounds negative, in my own company that's a better way of putting it.

Yes, it teaches us to be independent and a lot more responsible and brave. Sometimes we need to move around and get things all by ourselves. It can be tough at times but we can learn something from it.

We do love people but at times we need to find people who knows how to care for us coz if they don't, it's useless. There can be few people around that can accept us for who we really are.

I am used to be alone for more than 10 years because I'm working in the city.I prefer to be alone than be with someone annoying and disturbing. But sometimes I'm afraid to be alone because I had a bad experience in my house. And I'm afraid it will happen again...

I like keeping alone sometimes,it make me take enough time to think of many things-the life, the world, our spirit..ect If you are afraid of being alone, maybe you can try to do any other things which can make your life more fulfilling.Hunting a job, travelling, eating, as well as sleeping!I hope you a nice day, friend.

Hello there. Thanks for starting the discussion.Even I am afraid of being alone. Or rather was afraid of being alone. I feel safe and happy with a crowd around. But there are times when I want to be alone as well. When I feel having a quiet atmosphere around me and sit with my eyes closed doing nothing. So I feel I need a bit of both.

We need them both. There is nothing wrong being alone for quite sometime.
