Do you spend more or less money?

One month ago, I gave my grand-parents-in-law 25$. That's like a small gift. My grandparents were happy. They live in countryside. I know that they spend very little money. But I'm very surprise when they said that they have not spent the sum yet. They still have 5$! With that sum, we only can pay for ONE dinner. So, we spent more or less money?

I used to be practical person, considering to check on the quality if a certain products. If it is fine, the durability is great. Then I will buy the product, plus checking the price if availing is worth it too.

I agree with you. we should check the price before buying anything previously i never used to do that, but lately i learnt all those and try to save as much as i can.

maybe they don't really need to spend extravagantly. if that is extravagant enough. I don't know. 25$ for us is quite big money already, and for two people could not spend for one dinner. the food here costs equivalent to 4$ only for two people, with fish, rice, somtam or salad, and grilled quarter chicken.

I think we spend more. We hardly save lately, there are always things needed to be purchased. I hope we do better in budgeting next year. I'm hoping to earn more as well. We are also always eating out and I hope we can cook meals at home more. This could save us and it is always healthier to cook your own food.

Due to inflation, cost of living in the city has rises so much. Everytime when I buy something with my RM50 notes, the money seems to use up on the same day. However, since I am retired beginning of this year I have cut down some expenses like no longer spend on expensive vitamins, or working clothes and go for only simple food which is much cheaper. I would say I had spend less but not much in comparison because of the price of items have gone up.

I am sure everyone has own budget in their life. And maybe still different in other country.Maybe your grand parents prefer to save their money for the future.

Not sure if I am following what you said but if a couple received money as a gift and didn't spend it all at once, I would think that they were very wise in how they were carefully spending that gift of money. If you give someone a gift of money, unless you say or suggestion to them how they should spend their money, then aren't they free to spend their gift of money however they feel they would like to? Are you happy that you gave your grand-parents-in-law $25? If you are glad you gave them that amount of money, I would not be concerned about how they are spending it.

It depends on the month whether it is a festive month or not. For myself I can foresee that I will spend quite a bit more than usual for the month of December because it is Christmas and holiday season. Moreover I have to buy school necessities like new school shoes for my son. His old school shoes have torn apart and beyond repair. More books for his school new terms. In the month of February also another festive month - Chinese new year and Valentine Day! I have to buy Chinese New Year biscuits, delicacies and money for the red packets to give away to children when they come and visit. Moreover I also tend to spend during the Mega sale which was like twice a year ... Oh, I really need to control my spending. Living in a big city like Kuala Lumpur is costly, cost of living is higher!

25$ wouldn't last me a few days. It seems everytime you go to the store for just a few items it is at least $20.00. If you eat out, as you said one person costs $20, They must not spend any money at all.

I tend to spend more money during the Christmas season. I have a lot of people to shop for and I always buy Randy multiple gifts. The rest of the year I am frugal with my money. Things are expensive and yet people are not making too much money. It would be nice if prices would go down instead of up.
