How Does Money Can Change People's Attitude?

They said money is the very vital stuff in the world. You can have anything you want in your life if you obtain such. However, one story that i recall and bring u to my mind today which really fits on this issue. "I have a biological friend (girl) which is very close to me during childhood days due to we are at the same age and likes when we are young. As we growing older, her family luckily came in to money (big amount) by fortunately a solo winner of Lotto draw as alleged because they are quickly wealthy without having any business and other sources of income. Now this time around, she doesn't speak or even smile to anyone in our place. When people greeted her she simply answered back a sarcastic smile and barely saying anything back. Only those people who have had money and wealthy enough were always cordially invited during their house parties or in any occasions. She's actually like a stranger in our place, that even her relative itself could not even easily visit to their house. Why MONEY can easily change one's attitude? It's because many can access absolute power and can control to the society that we are living for? Or it seems to corrupt the mind of a rich person which make them feel that they are supreme and above others without much seem to care more about their fellow individual in the society? I sometimes arrive to a conclusion that is the abstract stimulants that ignite conceit and ego-fueled pride. What do you think the reason behind of this? People indeed change because of these factors : Money, wealth, influenced and other form of superiority? Can this be considered as a menace or a contagious disease of pre-iminence that slowly corrupting the good minds and character of individuals? What can you say my fellow mylotters?

Some people get really changed by money. They think they deserve it, and those who don't have it don't, and they don't want to be associated with poor people. Especially when they first get into a glitzy-glam circle of people, friends... anywhere... and they are really starstruck, and really want to fit in the expectations of rich people, so they stop every connection with poorer people, just to have more chances to get into a society or community like that. I find it pretty pathetic. They also become more material... 2 years ago, McDon ald's was heaven for them, now they act like they wouldn't even touch the doorknob to save their lives. They only care about the surface... and it's sad.

Hi doroffee. Well, it is a sad reality that people simply changed because of money, but it's a mere fact and we have nothing to do with it. Why people committed crimes? it's because of money right? Variety of unlawful acts has been transpired in our society due to greedy people who wants money. For me, money is the very root cause of all the sins in the world including however the sudden changed of people's attitude.

Now adays, i guess majority of us use "money" as the caliper to measure one's happiness. It greatly affects one's outlook to happiness and contentment. Money changes everything in a split of a second. But just like the song goes, its not about the price tag - money cant by family, friends, neighbors, relatives nor happiness and love.

Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion grace147. You're right that majority of us utilize money for satisfaction of one's pleasure. But for me, money it's not the barometer of gauging happiness and contentment of life. Money can indeed gratify people but it's only a provisional satisfaction. The most important thing vis-a-vis absolute happiness is to Love and be Loved - vice versa.

No money does not change people,it just helps them be the person they already are.A person with a strong, good personality wouldn't let money change them.

You must have been sad to lose a good friend like this. I know I would have been. Why does money change someone's attitude? Probably the exact reason is different for most people, but I think it all boils down to social class. When someone wins a lot of money (or otherwise comes into a lot of money) and become wealthy, their social class changes. Often (but not always) they now only want to associate with others in their same social class. I don't think they actually think about how other people feel or are intending to be hurtful. In the US, social classes are alive and kicking, whether we want to admit it or not. I think it's actually true most everywhere except possibily in a socialist country.

It's been sad to think to have a friend like her but she's not a loss then. Thank StLouisMetroTutoring for always sharing your opinions. It's been very great to know that you're culture still prevails in your country (US) and has been totally exist on its absolute position. Relative to this issue, in our country social discrimination is already customary. Powers, justice, influences and even rights are entitled only to those high class level individuals. That's the reality of social situation here in our country. The rich are more richer while the poor remain beggar and deprive its right to be part of the social world. Very sad reality...

I have seen this happen to a lot of people. One reason might be that they feel you will want something from them. Another is that the money makes them feel better than you. It depends on the person that they are and how they were raised. Money does not make the person. Money can not make you happy inside.

Hi lcday123, thank you for your views. True indeed that most of wealthy people in our society today has similar figures in terms of attitude factor. Those who are not parallel to their level are like vagabonds on their eyes. I definitely agree with you that one's attitude are depending on a particular person, but not the fact on how they were raised by their parents. Many are raised by faith and discipline that in line with good moral and right conduct. However, when money comes to their pockets it seems that all the good traits fostered by their parents are deemed futile.

To me that is sooo shallow when people only value others on the size of their bank balance of if they are rich and famous. It is very true the saying money is the route of all evil. Some people will do anything for money and have no scruples in how they treat people. But money truly doesn't buy happiness, you can have all the money under the sun and still not be happy. And yet you can have someone who doesn't have money but has happiness! I wouldn't have a friend who thought more about money than the way they treated people.

If money becomes a master rather than a servant, it will definitely corrupt one's character. Truly, can change people's attitudes. That is the sad part about money. God Bless

That is really sad how this girl and her family have cut off their old ties. I could have been partially sympathetic to them if they had people asking them for money all the time, but it doesn't seem like you were the type to do this. If, as you said, they don't have any other source of income and it is just new wealth, then the money will get used up and they will once again share your status. They haven't worked hard to raise their status, so why should they consider themselves to be at a superior level? It doesn't sound like they are making wise decisions about their future. The lottery money will go, at the end they should hope that they are surrounded by good people and a secure environment.
