I have known and seen this person as one of the "special" persons in our community. He was one of the children of a prominent family in our place but since the passing away of both his parents, I think he had been cared only by helpers. I'm not sure. He has grown old already and sometimes we see him downtown just walking aimlessly. I don't know his real condition, whether he is a retardate or a mongoloid, I'm not sure, but he is a "special" person.
Yesterday I was wondering why a group of people had gathered in one area. I tried to look and saw that it was this "special" person which had bruises on his face because he tripped and fell face down while he was walking an uneven pavement. It made me sorry looking at him like this because it is obvious that he is helpless. I could not do anything but just stare and walk away.
Do you have anyone in your community who is also a "special" person, someone who used to be cared by his parents as a "special child" but had grown old with no one to care for him? Share your story.

I work in a neighborhood with an unusually high amount of mentally disabled persons. There is a clinic nearby, but they only take them in if they have a problem with the law or something. It makes me sad that so many of them get taken advantage of. People can be so cruel.

hi this is a retirement center and some are here as they have som physical
problems that they need help with so chose t o come here to live. I am in
the US and there are a few special people as you call t em who have
some sort of mental ailment but truthfully they need to be
in a nursing home with medical staff and hospital facilitie3s.When someone
falls I do not just stand there myself and gawk I ty to help or get
a care taker to help the fallen person. he or she may be mentally
challenged but remember this they are human and
lso deserve our help not our gawking.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. I feel extremely bad for this guy and i know he must be feeling helpless after his parents left. It must be an empty life for him now due to which he is battling such terrible situations in his life. I think such people need to be handled properly otherwise they will end up hurting themselves. To be very honest we do not have such persons in our locality otherwise i would have become emotional if i come across somebody like him.
What say?
