The drop of American dollars

Part of me is happy that our economy is recovering, The price of peso is rising, remember a decade ago, 1 US dollar is 50 pesos,Now One us Dollar is 40 Pesos and I heard that in the next few years 1 us dollar will be 30 pesos. While I am happy our economy is improving, I am depressed that my dollar earnings dropped drastically. My online earnings dropped 10,000 pesos because dollars is losing value. Now part of me wishes mylot and other online paying sites pays in Euros, Australian dollars or Qatar Dinar, As my earnings dropped drastically with being paid in American dollars.

Sad to say but the truth is our Peso is gaining strength over the dollar not because our economy is becoming stronger but because the dollar is weakening, not only to our currency but almost all the currency in Asia! Read this news article to enlighten your perspective : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/6274836/Asian-banks-intervene-to-prop-up-weak-dollar.html

So why does the US dollar gets weak? is it because of the recent elections?

This is a saddening fact. . I thought we can be happy already but it seems that it is an additional burden for all of us.

It's getting weaker because American economy is slowing down... Global financial crisis from 2008 to 2009 was cause by the collapse of US economy. The ballooning US credits and the decline in relative attractiveness of US investments cause dollar to lose its value. The recent election has nothing to do with this. The decline of dollar is purely economical and not political.

Yes it is true, the peso is rising but the price of a commodity is still the same. And like what you said the OFW are also suffering. I still did not withdraw my money from Paypal because I know it is smaller now when it is already converted into our money.

I agree with CaptAlbert. We should withdraw our earnings wisely before the peso goes down to 30.

Its better to withdraw it as soon as possible before it gets much lower. US Dollars is predicted to be 30 pesos in few years.

I can't say that I'm totally happy to hear this especially because I know our economy really has nothing to do with it directly. It would be bad for our fellowmen working overseas and our online earnings too. I would only be glad to hear and accept this news if it actually makes good effect on our everyday life, like prices of goods going down and fuel price as well.

indeed, the philippine economy is rising and so is its currency. the latest growth rate is very encouraging for the philippine economy. but there is a downside to it. the strengthening of the peso makes the money earned abroad by overseas filipino workers less in value if spent in the philippines. this is also true to the money earned from online activities because companies pay in US dollars. my heart is broken into two.

Its means only one thing. we need to work much harder than before, I will try to focus ore n saving money than my own wants. I will try to be more practical. for sure I want a little luxury but need to prioritize my needs more.

That's how i feel too albert, happy, because the peso is getting strong as against the dollar, but sad because the exchange rate of our earnings here will be lessened.

You are right there Capt! We Filipinos should be happy with our rise in economy but, we online earners who is paid by dollars isn't much happy with this kind of news. I don't feel the rise of our economy because the prices of basic commodities keeps going up but the income of the people is almost just the same. With the Philippine peso is going up, I wish time will come that Filipinos will not go abroad to work I mean, I wish our salaries will increase and so are the other source of incomes like the prices of farmers products.

I think OFW's are not happy as well, I may not mind these changes if the basic needs we have will drop in prize. Oil should stop rising in price because its suppose to be cheaper now that dollars is lower in value.

I guess soon we won't be doing mylot for the money at all. I feel the same way as you do, there are dollars that I earn from sites and I do enjoy the occasional dollars from friends, but now that the US Dollars is devaluating (or perhaps we're doing good) then maybe soon we'd be sending them our Peso. hehehe.. But yeah, it poses a huge problem for the OFWs who are the main people who send a large bulk of money to the Philippines. It's all economics though, it doesn't always mean it's "good" for the country to be in that position. But sure hope we'll all be better soon. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

There was actually a documentary about such in the local television which showed that the Peso may be stronger but it doesn't always mean that it's good for the economy or the country altogether. I couldn't explain it right now (or perhaps I'm just refusing to because I don't want to be technical) but the point is that sometimes we need to force the Peso to be weaker in order to create balance. A strong Peso might be good for those who are trading inside the country, but for those who are trading outside the country, it's very painful. Further, it has a huge effect on commerce because people's needs would be demanding for more but the employers (even the multinationals) wouldn't be able to provide such because their money or other currencies are weaker. This mostly because the currencies are pegged to the US Dollar.

Hello Laydee, because the exchange is a bit low compare to the last few years, were the exchange were seemed to be different and higher. now, ten dollars is merely three hundred pesos from it's usual four hundred pesos change. strong peso is visible if poverty isn't too obvious.

If Peso gets much more stronger, the investors who get here for cheap Filipino labor may move to countries that are much more poorer. soon we might not be able to satisfy their needs for cheap labor.

True indeed, our earnings obviously will be less since the dollar exchange is now lower as compared before. But somehow, in general this is good for our economy. While the dollar seems to go low, our peso value is now much larger. However, this may not be a good news for those who are working abroad and earning American dollars. Anyway, its just a matter of give and take right, simple law of physics... For every action there is always and opposite equal reaction.

How the heck we can have a strong peso while having a weak economy? Is this the result of the globalization that we just got ourselves into? this is not fair! i don't think good peso is good at all knowing we don't have real investment and jobs. I think it's the dollar reserve investment form foreign companies that making our peso strong. can we have an analyze on this

The strengthening of Peso is good if our economy is growing but it it not. Please read this news article to gain some insights on what the real issue is. http://globalnation.inquirer.net/mindfeeds/mindfeeds/view/20081127-174695/Weak-economy-strong-currency

It might be a good news if the government will also improve the lives of the people. Make the price of all the commodities to roll back while the value of dollar is rising up. If the price is still high our OFW will be risky because there salary will be lessen to 50 percent. The government really no measure about the impact of the economy. They only think about growth but never consider the life of the people who are affected into that drop...

Third world country or anything they called with us. The problem is that the government did not do something to uplift lifestyle of the Filipino and create a low inflation rate. If the value of dollar will go down to that effect and the inflation rate is still high I don't think the economy is a good reason for them to tell the world that the Philippines, is growing its economy?

Yes, I'm happy that Philippine economy is recovering but I'm not sure in what way because prices of basic commodities keeps on rising. Now that I'm here in Dubai, conversion is 11 Pesos to 1 Dirham as compared to 14 Pesos before. By the time the Dollar reaches 30 Pesos in equivalent, I don't know where overseas workers are going to find higher pay since company owners are not as generous as 10 years ago.

OFW can resort to better economies that doesnt rely on US dollars, I think euros, Canadian dollars, Aussie dollars, and British Pounds are still doing better and they keep going stronger than US dollars.

As an online earner,I do not welcome this change as it would lower our income too as we are paid in us dollars.Indian rupee has been rised by ten points recently and I was really about it.Now that US economy is down a little bit,my country's currency will go a little higher and hence lower income for us.

I for one truly believe and agree with you here romzee. I know that the reason for our peso gaining value versus dollar is that the U.S. economy is going down. Our country is nowhere near developing. As always we're just striving to survive. It's sad but it's true.

We cannot feel it because the truth is our economy is not growing! The truth is the dollar is losing it's strength not only against pesos but almost to all Asian moneys and other money of the world! Don't be fooled by all the administration brouhaha. Our neighboring nations are all preparing from this debacles while government people are fooling our citizens that the reason for Peso strengthening against the dollar is our economy is growing and this is a time to rejoice. This will only give us suffering especially for our OFW's and Exporters who will loose much of their earnings.

The only legit site that pays in euros in as freaking slow earner and I don't like recruiting people so I passed on it instead. My radio commercial voice-over jobs online dropped a lot of dollars. I need to save soon before US dollars gets down to 30 pesos. By far I dont know sites that pays in canadian or Aussie dollars which s now higher.

If our friend's response about the weakening of US dollars as the reason and not that our economy is improving, that is really a problem. Well, anyway I hope that this problem will soon be solved. By the way, I am still impressed upon knowing that you are earning that much from your online activity. Kindly share to us how you do it. Have a nice day!

Hi friend, Yes this is quite depressing too, the value of dollars compared to peso and other asian currencies are dropping now. This is also bad to those OFW's working in the USA. This means they would have to work harder and get more dollars to be able to compensate the dip in the dollar-peso exchange. I wish USA will be able to recover soon.

Considering our country's status, I am happy when it is being said in the news that our economy is going up. It is even said that we are the sleeping tiger of Asia. I am just wondering when will the tiger be awaken so that whenever I woke up in the morning and go to school or work, I won't see beggars on my way, won't encounter pickpockets when i enter the jeepney, no more illegal vendors on the road sides and other more. I think it is more important to consider the economy of our country so I'll not be sad if the exchange rate is slow, instead i will do more to earn in myLot.

Every coin has two sides. It's really ture for this matter. But fortunately, i think the exchange rates bring you more beneifts. Such exchange rate has helped you save more money and relieved your burdern on the daily expenses. And i also agree with you mylot as a good panel for earning money. But the earning is limited and there is no point on relying upon it. It just help us earn the spare money on our leisure time, which is not our main job. Overall, the exchange rate brought you big benefit to you guys i think..:)
