Congratulations! Sydney is very big, perhaps the largest city in Oz. I've never been there, unless you count the airport. One further thing you will notice there is the energy of the place. I've heard it's amazing - at least compared to most of the rest of the country! Being heavily populated, it's not particularly safe, but it depends if you go looking for trouble - you'll sooner or later find it. One does not go to Sydney to save money... if you want to save money, you go to Adelaide! The government here in Adelaide just gives, gives, gives (as one Sydney-sider friend put it)... the local & state & federal governments just take, take, take if you live in Sydney! You might be able to save if you can sleep on a friend's couch, but sooner or later, you'll find yourself spending money you never even had. Just make sure that you do everything you have ever wanted to do there... climb the Harbour Bridge, go to the Opera House & take as many guided tours as you can. They are not exactly cheap, but are so very worth it, as locals know the place much better than anyone. If you want to cut costs, private individual tour specialists will charge much less than bigger companies for much more personalized attention, but that's just my experience.

Enjoy the massive City of Sydney but it's quiet nice I enjoyed my stay there. I've been there for 3 months holiday last August. It's nice though yes you are right its a costly City. Cost of living has gone up in Sydney. For a 2 bedroom apartment 45 minutes from the city is about 420 per week. As for groceries, you go to the shops to get a few things and you'll easily spend $50 each time. Need a good salary to live in Sydney. It's safe yes base on my experienced, nice people everywhere.

I live in England and I am keen on traveling to different countries in the world. Australia is my second favorite country that I have visited. I have been there twice. Sydney in Australia is my favorite country in the world. I love the opera house, the harbor bridge, the botanical gardens and the beaches north and south of it like Palm Bridge. I suggest you shop in a large supermarket and if necessary get a weeks transport ticket because single fares can be more pricey. Sydney is a safe city but use common sense especially after dark. Sydney is fairly expensive.

I must suggest you that you can visit and live here, its completely safe yet little costly but if you are being working then there are places where you get the thing in affordable too. Be a part of Australia without any doubt.
