i suggest 2 ways. First, you can choose to use converter from ata to sata. Second, you can try the other drive. Personally, i prefer to use converter. But, the bad news is SATA always faster than ATA. So, you will loss the benefit if you converted it.

It can be done but it is hardly worth the effort required and will not operate as efficiently as the drive is capable of. I would suggest an alternative approach would be to purchase a drive enclosure to house the DVD drive, which can plugged into a USB port and run as an external drive. Another option would be to simply purchase a new DVD drive, they are very cheap nowadays and are readily available.

You used to be able to get PCI converter cards for a SATA interface - I have still got one or two in the cupboard (somewhere!). They were very slow, unreliable and a horrific job to find the correct drivers! They were also quite expensive. Now, you would be much better off getting another DVD drive with IDE. These drives are dirt cheap! Your SATA one will be used eventually when you upgrade the mainboard in future.

Hi, You should be using the DVD drive with IDE interface or use an adaptor to enable it to be connected to the SATA slot on the mainboard. It is hard to find IDE DVD here nowadays, I don't know why do they keep on hiding the old parts and show the new ones forcing you to upgrade the other components too. Maybe its a business strategy.
