Horrible Find in My Antiques Guide

I was reading "Kovel's Know Your Antiques", this version from 1981, and out fell a card. I get excited about those extra finds, but I picked it up... and it says "KKK" in big red letters. It's a business card for the Ku Klux Klan. Have you ever turned the very corner of a history text to avoid touching the portrait of a despicable person? But you can't touch anything except the card... it feels hideous. I'm considering what to do with it now. Keep it to show people evidence of racism? You can't erase horrors from the past... But part of me wants to ritually burn this THING. Ugh.

Oh, I know how that feels. Touching something you find so revolting that you feel it has tainted you somewhat. You could burn it if that would make you feel better. But it would also be nice to donate it to a museum or a person who collects such items. Especially if they showcase it to remind the world that such a dark thing happened in our history and we shouldn't forget it.

Welcome to Mylot, I agree with what has already been said, take the opportunity to put it on Ebay, there are people out there who collect this sort of memorabilia, even nazi artifacts are well treasured, seems macabre in a way, but there is a market for it.

Sell it on Ebay. People collect items like that because it shows what fools they were back then, and they ARE collectible. This goes for any Black Memorabilia also. I collect and re-sell old vintage postcards and the Black Memorabilia are super great collectibles because of the racism involved. It is disgusting, but collectible and an important part of history, so we remember. You can always check Ebay and see what it's worth so you put it up for a fair price...I would imagine someone would have it, especially if it's from the KKK.
