Children and indecent exposure

I was watching Chelsea Lately the other night and heard a story about a law being made to make it indecent exposure for anyone over the age of six to show their privates or anal region in public. Where I grew up it wasn't unusual to find children running around naked up to the age of 12. Now, I personally think that it should stop earlier than 12, but I'm not certain 6 is a decent cutoff age. Besides that, what are you going to do? Fine a parent because their six year old flashed someone or decided to go skinny dipping? That's not uncommon behavior for children where I grew up. What do you think?

I think it all depends on the culture where you live. But let's try it out with adult men pissing outside everywhere first!

Times have changed a lot, I remember as a kid running around naked or changing from my bathing suit to my clothes while my brothers friends were around. I don't have kids but 12 years oldis old enough to know better, but 6 they are still children. In today's day and age 12 are supposeable adults, and can make choices for themselves.

I think that little boys probably should not be running around without pants or at least boxers or underwear past the age of 6 but I don't agree with any 'indecent exposure' law with a cut off of age for minors. Not unless a specific person receives multiple complaints that they are letting their kids run around naked in public and not doing anything about it lol. In a case like that, fine or punish the SPECIFIC PERSON, but don't make MORE rules for everyone else. You never know what nosy busybodies are around, looking over the fence at you in your pool or yard, using a telescope to try and see into your windows, know what I mean? Honestly, except for one incident where a nosy neighbor was watching over the fence and probably didn't make himself known for at least several minutes, I've never had an issue of anybody looking into my backyard. 9 times out of 10 it's dark too and we don't turn on the lights in the pool so it's not like anybody would see much anyway.

I'm surprised more of you are not considering the fact that MANY kids share rooms with siblings and some of them even still bathe or shower together past the age of 6 - one 6 or over with a younger one. Kids who do this really have no sense of how there's anything wrong with sharing a room with a sibling, even a sister and brother, and they don't tend to crave privacy either, they change in the same room because it's a shared room lol. I don't necessarily agree with either one (I don't do this) but it is a 'normal' part of life, especially for people who have large families and only 2 or 3 bedrooms...

I think those things that children running or roaming along the streets naked only happened in the province and not in the city. People in the provinces before have no malice on it because they were not been exposed to the social media before. But at these times, people will already react because it is not normal anymore and that it should already be stop.

The time changes a lot 50 years before. During my younger days I can still remember playing in the rain at the age of 10 not totally naked- but only wearing shorts and topless is really fun. But this time- I don't think 10 yrs old playing in the rain topless is still appropriate. Some girls had their monthly period as early as 9 years old and their body already had changes but the age of 10.. So, I guess this law is just good to save innocent kids from molestation and other bad things from people around.

I think children should be taught how to act in public, but parents can't control what their children do in public if they are not around. I think that some try to take laws like this too far though. I agree that over the age of maybe 10 a child shouldn't deliberately expose himself, but younger than that it's pretty average around here to do skinny dipping and not care about modesty. Unfortunately, there are people who try to take the law too far and one of my friends experienced this. Her son was at the pool and when he came up out of the water his trunks fell below his bottom, which isn't uncommon even if the trunks are well tightened. There was a security guard there who reported it as indecent exposure even though it was completely accidental and the boy is only nine years old. The mother brought it before the judge and it was luckily thrown out, but that proves that people may try to take it too far.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that or I would have brought it up in the original discussion. That mother was quite pissed and far as I'm concerned she had every right to be.

Times have changed. There are pedophiles and weird people around so it is better to protect our children by having that law. We can't always trust other people especially those we don't know. Back in the day, I've seen children running around naked in the rain. It was like the most natural thing, but today, I don't see that happening anymore. Children are also concerned about this. Like our kid, she does not even want to go out wearing a sleeveless blouse or dress. I think children now are more conscious and aware of their surroundings.

In my opinion that fact that they even have to make a law about that is just really sad but the truth is that times have changed. I technically am on the cusp of the change in what children knew at a certain age. Growing up my mom did a good job of keeping me unaware of things until I needed to know them but know you do have kids as young as six that know things about things that kids their age have no reason to be even thinking about ( if you know what I mean). The amount of exposure that kids get to things on tv, the internet and from other kid is massive so to stop further problems that might occur down the road this law is a necessary precaution.
