Why some Filipino Pop-Music Flopped

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Filipino music and in fact, i love advocating local artist and my country's music while the Filipino music industry is famous in some foreign countries such as local talents that are now famous in the foreign media. The local music industry in the Philippines is out win with new music imported from foreign charts. Some Filipino's prefer to listen to foreign music such as songs on MTV; Billboard hit charts, and even Korean "k" pop. Rather than listening to our very own local music the reason why some Filipino's prefer to listen such music mainly because some Filipino music in today’s generation is overused. Overused in a way that some Filipino music is kept revived and altered by other Filipino artists, I am not against music revival it’s just that some artist prefer to use the same music but with other melody or change its rendition just to make it their own. I mean, we are way talented in fact, Foreign Celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres acknowledge the talent of Filipinos in terms of music. But how can we provide good music, if our local music industry’s mimicking other else’s song to claim it new and their own? It’s about time that the local mainstream music should make songs of their own, rather than reviving. In a way by making such music, you can really say that it Is genuine and original, and by making music that aren’t revived from other artists, it can help boost and make a good non-flopped Filipino pop-music.

you keep hearing the sames songs being revived by current filipino musicians over and over again. sometimes there are two versions of a song simultaneously being distributed to radio stations. how can you call it OPM when they are just revivals of songs by foreign artists?

This is such a visible observation on today's mainstream music trend in the Philippines. most probably they liked to keep a new record but sadly they are making songs out of other's works and claiming it as their own. I mean, we can make new songs without revival of old tracks, but somehow they keep in mind popularity rather than making genuine tracks.

well for me OPM is still there. My sister once told me about OPM is sometimes boring since a lot of songs are in ballad genre. She also ask me if there is a Filipino pop so I said there is but only few and its not making waves in to the market. Here in Asia K-pop is the new craze its like american pop soaring the air high. I wonder when will Filipino Pop find its way to the mainstream. Well this may be a challenge for every single Pinoy music artists.

They only make songs out of official music soundtracks like TV-soaps in which it is monotonous and very common because all the songs come from a revival track which is so not original, i mean, we can make a label out of Filipino music without copying some Else's song. we are a talented race but sadly, our industry is focusing on sales rather than pure passion. This is just my opinion... anyone can have different views about this subject. Thanks for the reply.

many of our musicians are simply out to make money. and so the producers and other music company labels. and they want it the easy way. i miss the 1990s where the local bands were at their peak of creativity and popularity. bands were creating their own music. i think we have been globalized that music we hear are from abroad. i hope we can have apo hiking society again and eraserheads.

Agree! our music industry should have distinctive music such as that E-heads and APO rather than making some music for the sake of boosting sales where in fact it is so not in our Filipino roots. thanks for your comment.

I'm a music person and I really love music. I actually don't care if from what country the music is, or what genre, or what kind of instruments are being used to that music. What is important is that it has to please my very sensitive and discriminating ear. I can listen to whatever genre as long as it pleases me. And regarding the 'Filipino-foreign' music comparison, I hate to say that I'm one of the many people who prefer foreign music more, for me I just can not feel it. I mean if you are the person to really compare like the Filipino music and an American music, you will certainly know the differences. Maybe the way they processed or how they made the music, the arrangements, the mixing, etc. Having said this, I can not really say that the people in the Philippine Music Industry should start changing and imitate the music of other countries because the country's music identity will be lost, maybe just a little upgrading is enough and is needed to make the OPM more likable, most especially to the youth today.

Oh yeah, Who kills own industries but the people in it? If they will be supportive of one another and really sing OPMs i am sure the industry will be alive again. In where I am now, they don't sing English song, all Thai songs. That's why during Karaoke time, i am having difficulty finding a song for me... I have learned to sing "beautiful sunday" and their old time favorite... "yesterday once more" and "shalala", They don't even "Like a Virgin" and "Dancing Queen" which I though were Universal and safe songs for all nations. oopsies not at all.

Ahm because we don't like our local artist and would like to get rid of their dramas? hehe joking! I personally like the music of some local artist and buying their CD's instead. Some like Lizel Garcia who has a beautiful voice and great songs don't get appreciated versus the energized vibe of the auto-tune pop of k-pop and other foreign music.
