Music Artists You're Unashamed to Love - Despite the Stigma

When you're little you can enjoy any music for the fun of it and there is no social stigma attached. For me it was groups like the Spice Girls, singers like Britney Spears - basically good pop music. I was having a discussion with a work colleague recently about abuse I have received for enjoying music since I entered High School and left. He said that when he was in University Halls he blasted an ABBA album out and everyone commented on how brave he was. It got me thinking about what the MyLot crowd would admit to enjoying listening to? Personally, I'm unashamedly in love with an English band called McFly. They're often blasted for being just another boyband, but I genuinely feel like they could cheer me up in the worst of situations and are absolutely fantastic live. For a band that was often described as being one that would "split up next year" they're already lasted almost 10 years and are still going strong. Why its still supposed to be 'embarrassing' to enjoy their music I don't know.

I was never really into that particular brand of pop. But I do remember catching crap for liking Elton John. I'd have to hear all the "but he's gay" stuff, and other weird insults. Weird, I say, because these same guys also liked Queen and Judas Priest. Umm, hello! Freddie Mercury -- gay. Rob Halford -- gay! And it was really bad one night when we were partying in a motel room and everyone left but me and my cousin. We were waiting on a cab that never came and I ended up falling asleep in a chair. When I woke up, he was listening to Cher! How can you make fun of Elton John and then listen to Jesse James on 11?

I could be tempted to look up an album online and listen to the McFlys.

I think you could be surprised. Certainly look up a live video of two. I think it was Brian May from Queen who once said they were one of the best bands he'd ever seen live. That's quite a compliment for a band of their style!

I used to be embarrassed by my music taste as i like older music which people my own age would find really uncool. So i would pretend to like the modern music that everybody finds cool. But as i have gotten older i have become less worried by how i think people will judge my music taste. If i like a song i will admit to it and not care what anyone else thinks.Because of this ill happily play my music quite loud without worrying that the other people in my halls will hear it and lots of people do as anyone coming onto our floor passes my door. But everyone is nice and accepts that everybody is different and likes different things. And any mockery of peoples music taste is purely a joke without the intention to hurt anyone.

I legitimately like a lot of Nickelback songs. Not all of their songs but quite a good few. Apparently most of the popular conscience is that they're the worst band ever and listening to them is like [insert hyperbolic expression of your choice]. I don't get it.
