Hiccups and gas!

One of my cats has had the hiccups all day yesterday. I never heard of that but they went away so I guess he's ok. Both of my cats have a gas problem and they stink to high heaven so that I have to leave the room! Could it be the food I'm feeding them? I always buy the best brands. Have you ever heard of a cat with hiccups or a bad (really bad!) gas problem? Any suggestions on how to get rid of the gas problem?

It sounds like a problem with the food. I've heard of cats with gas and normally that is what does it. I would think the hiccups could create some gas too and I've seen cats with a mild case of hiccups and it disappeared. Maybe it's something like with humans, eating too fast, or swallowing too much air when you do eat.
I used to give my cat Blue Buffalo and never had any problem at all. She had a beautiful shiny coat and clear eyes. It's not cheap though, but they do have it in the dry or wet. I only used the dry as she didn't like any type of wet food..tried all kinds..nope.

Maybe it's just the wet food then that upsets the stomach to produce the gas. What if you tried not giving them the wet for about 3 days and see what happens. I know it will be hard but they'll survive, I promise, lol! Blue Buffalo is an excellent cat food as far as I'm concerned.
My other cat used to burp after wet cat food, so maybe it does have something to do with that? Or do you think you're feeding them too much maybe? I'm just trying to help, really I am.
It must be awful to smell that gas all the time..ugh.

Hi Kash! Yes, the Blue Buffalo is good. You recommended it for Mewie, but she's fussy and wouldn't eat it. So I gave it to one of the other cats. We both enjoyed it. It is very good.
ctryhnny, Kash is very good. She knows all kinds of stuff.
So you don't need my advice. Just stopped in to say "Hi".

Yes, feed them with high protein food lots of omega fatty acids. Avoid foods that contain meat by-products, dairy, ash, corn, cornmeal, wheat, fillers or chemical preservatives.
Poor cats..

i agree protein food is always good and meaty chemical foods give some smell and also not easily digestible. The link will be useful

Digestions are certianly off. Check food for grain content, cats eat meat and can tolorate very little grain or veggies. It's so frustrating when you pay for high quality pet food and get something they can't eat and be healthy on. I give my pets all a digestive additive, it keeps the gas down.

hi,
even though you are giving the best brands they may not fit the cats. see that the food is properly digested and give the food which is easily digestive .

What are you feeding them? It could be many reasons for the gas even feeding them high end food (some think Iams is high end). Some have issues with grains - is it grain free?, some have issues with chicken - does it have chicken?, and some even the oils.
