Why websites want exclusive content?

Many writing websites want to have only exclusive content from their users and they have full rightss on the content that is published with them. While other sites might let you post the content elsewhere as long as you put a reference so that it won't be considered as plagiarism. Why does this happen with the online writing sites? Wouldn't it be better to have their articles posted on other sites as well, with a reference at the end that will send the readers back to the site?

since they pay the writers they have the right to do whatever they please them. It is just normal. Of course they have to give themselves the full authority of what the they have paid for. and since online thing is so simple to plagiarized, duplicate and reproduce, their sole ownership is violated.

It's not the same for all the sites though. Some of them allow to post the articles at other sites as long as they are included as a reference. I am mainly talking about sites where you have a profile and post content under your name, like Bukisha etc. The payment is based on the visits which means that you don't get paid if noone visits the profile. Selling articles for money, without including your name anywhere sounds more reasonable!
