I just found out today that for the next three friday evenings from 6pm to 9pm our main historic street is going to give carriage rides, and they are putting up an ice skating rink. Told my son about it and I think we will stroll down that way this Friday. Wonder if they will have any of that fake snow blowing around too. That was pretty awesome to see down in Tampa. A Christmas store there had a huge room and made it snow so kids that have never seen snow would get a chance to play in it. I am excited to go down and see it.

Our state does have the ice rink set up in the capital city. It is not receiving a lot of business this year because the temperatures are an unseasonably high of 70's and 80's. Hard to get people really into the whole ice rink thing when it's summer time! We used to get snow here in the north part of the state. Due to the drought we have not had moisture in the winters so alas, no snow. I was hoping for this year, but the weather service says that there could be up to four more years of the drought. Ugh.

My son would love it. He would consider it the best of two worlds, a skating rink and warm weather LOL. Where are you? I am in florida.

I'm in Oklahoma and there is an outdoor rink in Oklahoma City and one in a city just south of there called Norman. I did actually get a dusting of snow in one of the work sites where I was last week. I LOVED it. I took pictures and put them on facebook. I was in a smaller place in south central Oklahoma where there is a National Park. It was absolutely gorgeous with the dusting of snow. But I need more snow for my 'snow fix' of the season!!

That sounds lovely! I wish we had something like that around here - maybe I will look it up and see if I can find something.

I live in Florida so we never see snow. Last time I know of that it snowed in Florida I was working as a Medical Examiner in Maryland and my boss called and the head office was in Tampa and he said it was actually snowing! And he said the oranges on the trees were actually turning blue. He was upset cause he did not have a coat for that cold of weather. that was in 1973. Hope you find something similar to do.

When you say "fake snow" do you mean something non-icy, non-meltable, or do you mean they have a snow-making machine spewing out the icy stuff? I remember when I lived in Vancouver and working in the movie biz, they shot "Christmas on Division Street" in the middle of a heat wave in July... they used both, but obviously didn't know much about snow as they put the fake stuff around the base of trees, where real snow actually melts first because it's warmer there (the tree roots bring up stored heat from deep underground).

naw they had the non meltable stuff. But the room was so filled with it that kids that have never seen snow really enjoyed themselves. It was fun to watch. Thats funny about the movie.

An old fashioned Christmas would be beautiful! It is hard for me to imagine anyone wanting snow though. Here in the north, most people want it to go away. An inch or two isn't bad, but we sometimes get a lot more than that. It is pretty if you don't have to go anywhere.

When my children were smaller we had a 40ft houseboat. Naturally it had a generator, refrigerator, stove all the comforts of home except on a boat. We would let the kids open their gifts on Xmas eve then drive up to the the boat and spend Christmas day to New Years day. The kids loved it and we were docked so when it snowed you could look out of the windows and see the snow covering the trees. It was like a fairyland. That was the most beautiful part of the time we spent there very quiet and you really could enjoy the beauty of mother nature.

Wow it is really awesome, actually I am the same with you I live in the southern hemisphere and get a snow in my city,so I never experience the snow day at all,and sometimes I just like you and go to some big mall or skating rink to watch the man-made snow. But I will have a plan to go to the northern hemisphere and experience a really snow day sooner or later.

My husband and I are planning a 10 day cruise to Alaska. So I imagine for all the years living in Florida now I will get an eye full of glaciers and snow. But I am truly looking forward to seeing it. While I cant deal with the cold, for me who has an adventureous heart anyway, it has been a dream to see this. And I love the ocean so I will not mind being on the boat for several days.
