How Prepared Are We

The fact. Disaster may come anytime. Even at the moment we least expected it. And the question is are we ready? This is the main focus of the emergency meeting we conducted last Monday prior to the coming of the typhoon. It has been a general knowledge that the Philippines is the favorite route of typhoons. So what the government wants is to act before the calamity rather than after in order to prevent great damage to life and property. We already conducted Contingency Planning and Disaster Preparedness on every barangay (village) so that they can be able to address the problem at their level. I thought this will be the testing period for all of us. A test if our plans really will work. Still glad that the typhoon does not hit our area because of the High pressure so the tendency if for it to go down. We are on the upper part of the country. But still sad that there are still who suffered the negative effect from other parts of the country. A prayer for those who were affected.

Hi akamaru! It's good to know that you are not experiencing similar kind of calamity. Whereas in our country we are the favorite of these typhoons so we really need to be prepared at all times. Thank you for sharing!

This is another event in our country that our government should take properly. Pity those families who lost their loved ones in the midst of this season that everyone is expecting to celebrate - but now...not everyone does. Awareness and getting prepared before the calamity comes is very important. Thu our people slowly are learning from the past, but still our government lack all the modern facilities and techniques to prevent natural disaster. Lack of proper knowledge and training also put our rescue team in danger instead of helping the affected people...so sad indeed.

Things really change over the years. Typhoon who came to our area usually pass our place and seldom to these places. And they are blaming this event on the illegal logging and illegal mining activities. I also hope that we could address all these interrelated problems. Thank you for sharing!

It must be a horrid experience awaiting impending disaster, I can only imagine it's like being in your worst nightmare, only it's not a nightmare, it's reality. Like anything it's the fear of what's to come, the anticipation of how much damage the typhoon is going to cause and hoping and praying that it won't take lives too.

We experienced those things. We were caught unprepared that time. So that particular incident in the province of Albay several years ago was one thing that made people of this place change. The attitude towards things, I mean. Although we cannot prevent the calamity from coming to our place, at least we can do something to minimize the damage it may bring. That is what we are advocating this time, to become prepared at all times. I had seen the changes in the people's attitude by my own eyes and I appreciate them for that. We won't wait for another disaster to come before we move. It must be now. This time, if it rains for a day continuously, the people knows what to do already. Regardless if there is a typhoon or not. Well, of course a prayer always help. Thank you for sharing!

I think that we should always be prepared in any event. And like such disaster, we can only pray that it does not hit us directly or at least spare the lives of others.

Hi jen! We have to. Most often, we only move if it was over. When nothing is left for us. This is the main concept of disaster preparedness that our government wants everyone of us to learn. To act before the disaster came. Thank you for sharing!

Truly, being prepared for any circumstances that may happen is the best we can do. However, since we don't know what tomorrow may bring, most of us are caught unaware. We can prepare for some that we know will come, but there are some which we don't know can happen. I am glad to know that you've done your part to prepare yourself and the village you are in. This Christmas, there is a lot of preparation for the holidays. These preparation are mostly on the outside like the home ready for decorations. What we fail to prepare is our heart for Jesus Christ who's the reason for the celebration.

Hi friend! Yes, we also believe that everything is according to God's will. But preparing is also another thing. I'm sure God does help those who help themselves. Thank you for sharing!

The question is, are we really prepared for change? If it does, then the principle of being aware of possible disaster will be carried on seriously. I had seen some seminars, I like the idea of knowing the real facts and the management strategy for such. I did documented once a seminar conducted in the community, the outcome is overwhelming.

Hi shavkat! Things like this is a concerned of everybody. As of now, the people had change so much. They are already cooperative and are willing to learn and this thing made me happy. I remember how hard headed the people before. But of course, maybe they learned their lesson too because of what happened to our place several years ago. Some said that the weather is hot before the typhoon Reming hit the place. I was in another place then, and we also experienced the other typhoon prior to reming, the milenyo. It was really a shocking truth! Hopefully, that thing will not happen anymore.

Hi bryan! Thank you for the concern. It has also been a general knowledge knowledge that your government is always there in support of our government in times like this. But I also know that you are also having a hard time as of the moment. So I also hope for your economy to be stable once again. Have a nice day!

Sorry to hear that, but hopefully those tsunami or typhoon would detour to somewhere else, and not hit on any continent at all. Those disaster like you said, hard to predict their course and how serious they are. It is better to prepare for the worse than sorry later. It happen here in the U.S. earlier, storm sandy hit the North - east coast, many people lost their home, and some even don't have power for weeks. We all need to get prepare for the worse to come.

Hi kingparker! That is also what I am always praying, like this latest typhoon, some of my colleague said, thanks God the typhoon goes somewhere else. But I said, but still there are people who will be affected. I wish it will go somewhere else, where there is no one to be affected in one way or another. I know that we are suffering from different kinds of calamities and hopefully, we would be able to device ways and means to at least lessen the burden and the effect. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice day!

Actually, this is the concern of everybody. Especially in our country which is according to the world survey, we are on the number 3 when it comes to unpreparedness. Imagine, we are always starting from zero after every calamity that hits our place? So this is one of the focus of our government today. How to become disaster resilient. Hopefully, with the help of each and everyone of us, we could be able to make a clear and a strong plan to address these things. Personally, I don't want things to keep on repeating. The same persons, the same families suffered every year. Thank you for sharing an idea of preparing canned goods. Yes we informed every family thru their respective village heads to prepare at least 5 kilos rice, canned goods, water and other things necessary. At the first news that a certain typhoon entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Thank you for sharing!
